UK police had to resort to ‘military-grade’ technology to stop those airport drones
Well, you had to figure this kind of thing was coming. After the UK’s second-busiest airport was forced to close in recent days because of rogue operators flying drones too close to the facility — which in turn forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights, leaving more than 100,000 holiday travelers stranded – police around the Gatwick Airport, south of London, had to sort to extreme measures to neutralize the drone threat. How extreme? Officials aren’t being very specific (for obvious reasons) but it turns out the solution that allowed Gatwick to finally reopen included the deployment of “military-grade” technology.

The anti-Facebook hysteria has gotten out of control
There’s no getting around it: 2018 is a year Facebook would rather soon forget. Over the past few months, the social networking giant routinely made the news for all the wrong reasons. While the Cambridge Analytica scandal was perhaps the biggest challenge the company endured, there were seemingly an endless number of other controversies Mark Zuckerberg and co. had to contend with over the past year. And while some issues were unnecessarily magnified by the tech press, there’s no denying that the manner in which Facebook often handled and addressed certain hot-button issues only made things worse.
In the process, an anti-Facebook sentiment naturally began to arise this year. And though Facebook hasn’t seen a meaningful drop off in its user base — at worst, Facebook usage remains stagnant — many in the tech press seem inclined to position Facebook as a digital cancer that must be eradicated. If you didn’t know any better, you might otherwise assume that Mark Zuckerberg and anyone who works at Facebook are sinister, if not evil, people who purposefully ignore serious problems associated with the platform in the interest of boosting users and profits.

Rumor says Apple won’t ditch the iPhone’s notch design until 2020
Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones next year, the direct successors of the iPhone XS, XS Max, and iPhone XR. The company isn’t expected to deliver any significant design changes though, which means Apple’s notch design will stay in place for a third year. However, a leaker claims that the 2020 iPhone models will deliver a screen redesign in line with what Samsung is already doing now. We’re talking about Infinity-O screens that have no notches, since the selfie cam punches through the screen. But don’t think Apple is preparing to simply copy Samsung’s new smartphone design. That’s because Apple filed a patent describing technology for drilling holes in displays all the way back in 2016, well before the iPhone X and its notch design arrived.

Apple’s iOS 12.1.2 update is reportedly breaking some core iPhone features
The fourth quarter of 2018 hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for Apple. After seeing its share price skyrocket for months, Apple finally became the first company in history to cross the $1 trillion mark in market capitalization earlier this year. But things quickly turned south following multiple independent reports that Apple had cut iPhone production several times due to lower than expected demand. Making matters even worse, Apple announced that it would stop reporting iPhone units sales figures along with its quarterly reports. The move sent speculation swirling that Apple might see no end insight to declining iPhone sales, and the company’s stock plummeted even more as a result. Apple shares have lost more than a quarter of their value in just two months, and Apple’s market cap fell to $715 million as of Friday’s close.
On the product side, things have been a bit of a roller coaster ride as well this year. Apple’s current iPhone, iPad Pro, and Mac computer lineups are the company’s best ever, but little problems keep popping up. Last week people began complaining that their new iPad Pro tablets were being delivered bent, and now people from all over the world are saying that Apple’s latest iOS 12.1.2 update is crippling their iPhones.
