A hot new Android phone you can’t buy just set a Guinness Book record

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you were looking for brand new, affordable, Android devices, you should know there’s a new toy in town that might meet your needs. The phone features an all-screen screen with a minimal notch, which is apparently an excellent design for winning a new Guinness Book world record. All you have to do is use more than 1,000 devices to create a huge dynamic display to get it. And because it’s Christmas, that display has the shape of a Christmas tree. That said, the handset might not make it to the States and other international markets.

Minnesota Attorney General sues Comcast for allegedly overcharging customers

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We know this will come as a shock to many of you, but the cable giant Comcast has become synonymous among the general public with price hikes that squeeze customers for every extra cent available, and then some.

Indeed, the company has even been raising prices as much as it can at what you could argue is exactly the wrong time — a period when a growing number of customers are cutting the cord, saying goodbye to traditional pricey cable packages and going all-in on Internet-based TV. And now, along comes Minnesota’s attorney general, who on Friday filed a lawsuit against Comcast/Xfinity that lays a host of allegations at the company’s feet, like the notion that it’s overcharged thousands of customers for TV packages and even failed to come through on promised gift cards.

Squeezed by US-led opposition, Huawei was still able to ship 200M phones in 2018

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If there was any lingering doubt about the fact that Huawei doesn’t need support from the West to realize its ambition of being a leader in the global smartphone race, the position the company finds itself in as 2018 draws to a close should banish those last vestiges of uncertainty.

Not only has the company’s critically well-regarded handsets suffered bans around the world led in part by concern from US security officials, but Huawei’s CFO was also arrested in China in recent weeks ahead of an expected extradition to the US — a major complication in what were already fraught relations between the US and China. And still, the China-based mobile powerhouse has disclosed that it’s shipped more than 200 million smartphones — a record-setting improvement over the 153 million phones it shipped the previous year.

Bethesda giving ‘Fallout 76’ owners free copies of three classic ‘Fallout’ games

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Bethesda has created some of the most beloved action RPGs of the last two decades, finding sizable audiences with Oblivion in 2006 and Fallout 3 in 2008 before hitting critical mass with Skyrim in 2011.

But all the good will in the world wasn’t enough to save Fallout 76 — an online spin-off of the post-apocalyptic series that Bethesda acquired over a decade ago. Reviews from critics and players alike have been underwhelming, and the developer has been in full damage control mode since the game launched in November.

It was just last month that Elon Musk took to Twitter to unceremoniously announce that he was changing the name of the crew module and rocket booster of SpaceX’s BFR rocket program to “Starship” and “Super Heavy,” respectively. Now, in another spontaneous update from Musk via Twitter, we’re getting our first good look at the Starship section in all its stainless steel glory.

In the early morning hours, Musk tweeted out an image of the top section of the spacecraft with the simple caption “Stainless Steel Starship,” before following up with a few additional details about the progress of the program.

Analyst: Google’s speakers and Pixel phones are turning its hardware into a $20B business

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Thanks to Google’s enduring moneymaking machine, its parent company Alphabet remains a titanic force of advertising. However, according to a new analysis, a separate powerful force is likewise swelling beneath that surface. We’re referring to the fact that Google is continuing to build up a robust hardware business — one that’s growing to such a degree that RBC analyst Mark Mahaney thinks it will start raking in almost $20 billion in sales over the next three years.

NASA’s New Horizons is poised for a historic New Year’s Day flyby

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It was back in August that NASA showed off images from its New Horizons spacecraft which had just spotted its next flyby target sitting a whopping 100 million miles away. Well, in the months since that updated the probe has been speeding along at over 30,000 miles per hour and, as luck would have it, it’ll reach its current destination on New Year’s Day.

The probe’s current target is an object known as Ultima Thule. Ultima Thule is a frozen chunk of material left over from the earliest days of our Solar System, and researchers are incredibly excited to learn more about it.

The most exciting Galaxy S10 rival of 2019 might look like this

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Galaxy S10 rumors have dominated the Android-related news cycle over the past few months, with each day bringing fans new details about Samsung’s upcoming flagship phone. Samsung is betting big on the Galaxy S10’s design and novel features, hoping that it’ll help it make up for lost sales in 2018.

The Galaxy S9 and Note 9 haven’t been selling as well as Samsung had hoped, hurting Samsung’s bottom line in the process. But Samsung won’t have an easy time convincing buyers to go for the Galaxy S10, as some of its biggest rivals are already readying worthy Galaxy S10 alternatives.

Tesla has a big incentive for buyers who miss out on the full $7,500 tax credit

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With the $7,500 federal tax credit for new Tesla purchases set to expire at the end of the month, the electric automaker is pulling out all the stops in order to boost sales and enable prospective buyers to enjoy the full credit. Earlier this month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter and said that buyers who opt to add themselves to a cancellation wait-list — where they can receive a car ahead of schedule should an outstanding order be cancelled — are eligible for a full refund if the car isn’t delivered before 2019.

In a similar vein, Musk over the weekend announced a new tweak to the ordering dynamic. According to Musk, some buyers who don’t get their Tesla vehicle in time to take advantage of the full tax credit will be reimbursed to the tune of $3,750. Remember, the $7,500 tax credit isn’t disappearing completely. Rather, it will drop down to $3,750 starting in January 2019 and will remain in place until the end of June.

A major ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ detail was just revealed, but it’s not the title

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

After Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I couldn’t wait to see The Last Jedi, as I needed answers for so many questions following the first episode in the new Star Wars trilogy. But that’s hardly the case right now.

In a way, The Last Jedi ended perfectly, at least for me. Episode VIII was much darker than VII, but it also ended on a hopeful note — and honestly could have ended the trilogy. As a result, I’m not as curious to see what happens in the ninth Star Wars movie as I was before, and when it comes to 2019 blockbusters, I’m more excited about Avengers: Endgame. But the untitled Episode IX does launch next winter, and we have a major detail for you right now.
