We’re still several months out from the release of Avengers: Endgame, but some New Yorkers were convinced that Thanos had returned earlier than expected on Thursday night when their power flickered and the sky suddenly began flashing a bright blue color. Predictably, the actual explanation was less exciting, as the Con Edison energy company confirmed that the light show was the result of an electrical fire at a substation in Astoria, Queens.

“There was a brief electrical fire at our substation on 20th Avenue & 32nd Street in Astoria this evening, which caused a transmission dip in the area,” Con Edison explained in a tweet shortly after 11 PM ET on Thursday night. “All power lines serving the area are in service and the system is stable.”

But next year, a variety of new devices may feature 3D camera sensors from Sony, which could also be used to power other novel smartphone features rather than just capturing 3D content. This has been a fantastic year for Netflix in so many ways. The quality of the company’s original movies, series, and specials is now off the charts, to the point where we’ve lost count of how many awards Netflix won in 2018. The service’s subscriber numbers continued to grow despite a recent price increase at the end of the year in 2017, and Netflix is showing no signs of slowing down in 2019. The Galaxy S7 was the last Galaxy S generation to ship in two versions when it comes to screen type. The regular Galaxy S7 had a 5.1-inch flat display, while the Galaxy S7 edge packed a 5.5-inch curved screen. Both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 only came in “edge” flavors. Samsung dropped the “edge” moniker because the Galaxy S8/S9 and the Galaxy S8+/S9+ all packed curved screens. But if you’ve been dying to see Samsung launch a flagship phone with a flat screen, you might be in luck. Next year, Samsung will unveil as many as four Galaxy S10 flavors, including the Galaxy S10 Lite with a flat 5.8-inch Infinity-O display.

Much like with the iPhone X notch design, which Samsung did not copy, the Korean smartphone vendor has not made use of in-display fingerprint sensors so far. Many of its competitors, meanwhile, adopted both Apple’s notch as well as the new fingerprint-sensing technology, and some of them combined the two in the same handset. Samsung, meanwhile, is rumored to introduce an improved version of in-display fingerprint sensors with the Galaxy S10, but the next flagship won’t be the first Samsung phone to pack new sensors.
