Here’s how to create that collage of your top nine Instagram posts from 2018
If you’ve haven’t seen this in your Instagram feed already, just wait. It’s coming. The arrival of a new year means so many things. Turning a page on the calendar, the compilation of resolutions for the year ahead, endless lists about the “best of” this or that from 2018 — and tons of collages. Specifically, those perennial collages of nine Instagram posts that users of the Facebook-owned service create and share around this time each year. Nancy Grace Roman, ‘mother’ of the Hubble telescope, dies at 93
Nancy Grace Roman, who began working with NASA in 1959 and is credited as a major force behind the effort fund and deploy the Hubble Space Telescope, passed away on December 25th at the age of 93. She was a pioneer in science and the space industry, becoming the very first woman executive within NASA as well as the agency’s first chief of astronomy.
Roman’s incredible efforts to push NASA to new frontiers is still felt today, and even though Hubble launched over a decade after she retired from her post, it almost certainly wouldn’t have existed without her.

Netflix says over 45 million accounts watched ‘Bird Box,’ but that’s not the whole story
Netflix a few days ago made available to its subscribers a brand new movie of the horror variety. Starring Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich, Bird Box has quite an interesting plot, one that rivals A Quiet Place from earlier this year. If in the latter you could not make any sounds, for fear of drawing monsters to your location, in Bird Box you’re not allowed to open your eyes while you’re out of your house.
The punishment is ruthless, and very immediate: death by suicide. If you haven’t streamed it, you totally should, because the film is very well made, with Bullock and her supporting cast carrying it brilliantly. And, according to Netflix, the movie is quite popular with its subscribers, as some 45 million accounts streamed it within the first seven days. However, that sort of statistic is mostly meaningless, because it’s coming from Netflix.

Leaked photos reveal group calling and low light mode might come to Google Duo
One of the more interesting storylines out of Google in 2018 was the continued fractured nature of the company’s overall strategy when it comes to messaging apps and platforms.
Whereas Apple has the simplicity of iMessage, and Facebook has successful standalone apps like WhatsApp and Messenger, Google’s attempts at presenting consumers with messaging tools continued to remain hampered by a seeming lack of simplicity and too many choices, none of which were good enough in and of themselves. As 2018 comes to a close, however, the company has slowly begun to rectify this — with the company’s video chat app Google Duo emerging as something of a success, now that it’s hit 1 billion downloads on the Play Store.

Man claims his iPhone XS Max caught fire in his pants
In a rather bizarre tale, an Ohio man named J. Hillard is alleging that his iPhone XS Max caught fire while it was simply resting in his pants pocket. While stories of iPhones spontaneously catching fire are uncommon, if not exceedingly rare, a handful of similar stories do seem to sprout up every year.
Originally brought to light via iDropNews, Hillard said that he first noticed something was amiss when he detected a peculiar smell in the air. Shortly thereafter, he began feeling a “large amount of heat” on his backside along with smoke billowing out of his pants. Hillard quickly called for help whereupon an industrious co-worker took care of the situation with a fire extinguisher.
