Anyone with a new iPhone or Galaxy phone needs this $22 fast wireless charger
If you have an iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or any recent Samsung flagship like the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9, or Galaxy Note 9, you need an Anker 10W Fast Wireless Charging Stand. Note our use of the word “need.” It’s not an exaggeration — using this awesome charging standing instead of a conventional wireless charging pad is a must. Why? We’ve got two words for you: Your face.
Thanks to Face ID on Apple’s iPhones and a similar face unlock feature on Galaxy handsets, you can unlock the phones using nothing but a quick scan of your face. And by having the Anker 10W Fast Wireless Charging Stand on your desk instead of a charging pad, your phone’s front-facing camera can see your face without you even having to touch your phone. That means when new alerts arrive, your phone will be unlocked before you even touch it, completely eliminating any barrier between you and the new information you want to see. Trust us, it’ll be the best $21.99 you’ve ever spent.

Apple’s unreleased iOS 13 software was just spotted for the first time, and we can’t wait
Wednesday was a very rough day for Apple and the carnage is obviously carrying over to Thursday. The company issued a rare earnings warning after the market closed on Wednesday afternoon, stating that its holiday-quarter performance is expected to fall well short of the guidance the company issued last October. Apple and its CEO Tim Cook blamed its shortfall on worse-than-expected iPhone sales in China, but pundits are already tossing around theories that iPhone sales are weaker than expected in other key regions, too. If that is indeed the case, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering how expensive Apple’s current iPhone lineup is. Not only that, but the latest iPhones lack any novel marquee features that might encourage people to upgrade. Instead, the iPhone XS is a faster iPhone X, the iPhone XS Max is a bigger iPhone X, and the iPhone XR is a more colorful iPhone X. That’s pretty much it.
The news cycle surrounding Apple will undoubtedly be gloomy for the foreseeable future. Things might get even worse later this year when Apple’s next-generation iPhones are announced. If early reports pan out, Apple’s iPhone 11 series will reuse the same design for a third consecutive year, which is disconcerting to say the least considering how many exciting new smartphone designs we’re expecting to see in 2019. Samsung, for example, will release new flagship Galaxy phones that are almost all screen, with just a tiny hole cut out in a corner for the front-facing cameras. Luckily, iPhone users are in store for some excitement as well in 2019, and they won’t even have to buy a new phone in order to enjoy it. That’s right, iOS 13 is set to debut this summer ahead of its anticipated September launch, and expectations couldn’t be higher.

Google’s secret Android replacement will run Android apps
Google is far from officially confirming that it’s working on a new operating system catered to all things smart, including mobile phones, tablets, computers, wearables, and other gadgets. But we’ve seen an increasing number of reports revealing that Fuchsia development is moving forward, as well as one important official move from Google that suggests the company is laying the groundwork that should make switching from Android to Fuchsia a breeze for users. A new report reveals a second move Google just made to ensure the transition from Fuchsia to Android will be as smooth as possible, and something we’ve been suspecting all along: Fuchsia will run Android apps.

Roku introduces premium network subscriptions – with some pretty major exceptions
Roku is now the latest tech company hoping that all of you who don’t currently subscribe to premium cable channels like Showtime but want to — that you’ll be fine with paying Roku for that privilege instead of going to a channel like Showtime directly.
Facebook, remember, has reportedly been pondering this same move — that of allowing subscriptions to channels like HBO to help flesh out its currently skimpy Facebook Watch offering. Likewise, Apple is reportedly going to mingle its own content with other content you have to pay for once the iPhone maker finally rolls out its video streaming service.

NASA declares New Horizons flyby of Ultima Thule a huge success
While most of us were popping the corks on bottles of champagne, NASA engineers were holding their breath as they watched the calendar flip to 2019 on the East Coast. That’s because the New Horizons spacecraft, which has now traveled some 4 billion miles through our Solar System, finally made its flyby of the most distant object ever studied up close.
The probe’s target was the oblong space rock known as Ultima Thule, and even though the spacecraft passed the massive rock at around midnight EST, NASA had to wait another ten hours before they even knew if the probe performed as planned. Now, with signals finally coming back from New Horizons, NASA can rest easy.

‘Super Meat Boy’ is now free on the Epic Games Store through January 10th
If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to spend less money on video games, it’s your lucky day. The Epic Games Store is continuing its full year of free game giveaways this week with the super challenging puzzle platformer Super Meat Boy. Starting December 28th, the promotion is live until 11:59 PM ET on January 10th, 2019. As long as you grab it from the Epic Games Store before then, you will own it for life free of charge.
Super Meat Boy is the second game Epic Games is giving away for free, as Subnautica kicked the program off back in December. So far, only these two games have been confirmed as additions to the program, but we will likely hear more about the next set of games on January 10th (at the very latest).

iOS upgrade rates continue to destroy Android
iOS 12 admittedly isn’t chock full of dazzling new features, but that, of course, is by design. Due to a number of high-profile usability issues and bugs involving iOS 11, Apple with iOS 12 opted to slow things down a bit, take a breather, and focus on overall system stability and performance above all else. In turn, the response from iOS users has been overwhelmingly positive.
To this point, iOS 12 adoption remains incredibly strong and is easily outpacing iOS 11 adoption. Earlier today, Apple updated the stats on its developer page and revealed that 78% of all iOS devices introduced in the last four years are running iOS 12. This is an increase of about 6% in just about 4 weeks, a jump that can partially be attributed to what was likely a huge wave of iPhone upgrades over the recent holiday shopping season.

‘Back to the Future’ director promises to leave well enough alone and never make another
Remember that poll we told you about last month — the one where people said that out of all the existing movie franchises out there, Back to the Future is the one they’d most like to see a new movie from?
It was actually a fun exercise from the folks over at The Hollywood Reporter. Given that we’re living in something of a Golden Age when it comes to reboots of beloved franchises, the magazine wondered if fans had a preference as to what they’d most especially love to see rebooted.

NASA’s New Horizons discovers Ultima Thule is not one object, but two
The past two days have been incredibly exciting for NASA and its New Horizons spacecraft. The probe made its much-anticipated flyby of the mysterious Solar System object called Ultima Thule early on January 1st, and NASA declared the mission a success after receiving word that the spacecraft gathered a wealth of science data.
Now, as scientists begin studying the very first tidbits of information gathered by New Horizons we’re learning a whole lot more about the rock. In fact, we just found out that Ultima Thule isn’t one rock, but two.

Tesla haters are parking their pickup trucks at Tesla Supercharger stations
Tesla’s emergence as a revolutionary automaker over the past few years hasn’t exactly been a smooth ride. Between Elon Musk’s antics and a long history of production issues — not to mention an equally long history of losing money every quarter — Tesla has nonetheless managed to stay afloat while fundamentally changing the way many people view the driving and car-buying experience.
That notwithstanding, Tesla’s success has given rise to a number of decidedly anti-Tesla groups keen on taking the company down a peg at any given opportunity. From union organizers who sometimes employ somewhat shady tactics to fossil fuel advocates who routinely pump out slanted anti-Tesla stories, it’s no secret that Tesla has its fair share of enemies.
