Google may ditch bezels and go with an all-screen display for the Pixel 4
Google is apparently the latest company that wants to move away from a notched display design for its smartphones, with a newly spotted patent offering fresh insight into what we’re likely to see in a Pixel 4 handset.
We were already hearing that Google’s next flagship smartphone would actually include a more affordable variant. Supposedly, Google will launch two Verizon-exclusive smartphones this spring — the Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite. These would be the first mid-range phones the company has released in the US since the $379 Nexus 5X back in 2015. Meanwhile, we have fresh details on the design direction Google apparently wants to go next, with 91mobiles having spotted a patent the company has been granted for an all-screen phone sporting an edge-to-edge display.

Video shows us what to expect from hole-punch displays on 2019 smartphones
If 2018 was the year of the notch, 2019 will be the year that smartphone makers around the world find ways to ditch the notch (or, at the very least, shrink it). One of many ways that companies will try to eliminate bezels without cutting out a chunk at the top of the display is by instead carving a small hole into the corner of the screen, which will likely be the method of choice for Samsung with its Infinity-O display for the Galaxy S10 line.
But with over a month to go until the Galaxy S10 makes its debut at Samsung’s Unpacked 2019, YouTuber Marques Brownlee got his hands on the next best thing: Huawei’s Honor View 20. It might not be the most exciting phone on the market, but it’s one of the first to feature the so-called “hole-punch display.”

Android Q leaks early, features system-wide dark mode and more
Google might never solve its Android fragmentation problem, but that’s not going to stop the company from churning out new software every year. To that point, despite the fact that Android 9.0 Pie has yet to even appear on the Android distribution dashboard (which tracks how many Android users are on any given version of the software), an early build of 2019’s Android Q has leaked, giving us a sneak peek at some of the upcoming features.
On Wednesday, XDA Developers managed to get a leaked Android Q build on a Pixel 3 XL, and while it isn’t anything like the Android Q Developer Preview that Google will roll out in March, it is helpful for confirming which new features and fixes Google plans to implement in the next public version of the Android operating system.

Rumor claims iPhone 11 will deliver huge improvement in camera quality
Hot on the heels of a wild leak which gave us a glimpse at intriguing renders of an iPhone 11 prototype, Steve Hemmerstoffer and CompareRaja are back again with another exclusive report about what features we can expect to see in Apple’s next-gen iPhone.
Citing an anonymous source, the report claims that two of the three rear sensors on the back of the iPhone 11 will be 10-megapixel and 14-megapixel sensors, a substantial bump from what is currently found on Apple’s flagship iPhone XS Max. Interestingly, the iPhone 11 will reportedly boast a 10-megapixel front-facing selfie camera as well.

Apple plans to pull back on hiring as a result of slower iPhone sales
Apple is continuing to feel more ramifications from the economic slowdown in China that the iPhone maker has previously blamed for the downward revision in its holiday quarter guidance. The company, as we and other outlets have reported, has also been cutting iPhone prices for retailers in China, but now comes word that Apple also plans to slow down the pace of its hiring in some parts of the company.
Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged the company’s issues while meeting with employees the day after writing the bombshell letter he addressed to investors that disclosed the recent struggles related to China. During that internal meeting, according to a Bloomberg report, someone asked Cook if the company might implement a hiring freeze. Cook countered that some divisions within the company would see a hiring slowdown instead, rather than a complete freeze.

Leak reveals new launch details for Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone
Samsung all but confirmed its foldable smartphone (rumored to be called the Galaxy Fold or Galaxy Flex) will make its debut at Unpacked 2019 in San Francisco on February 20th. But in case you still need any additional convincing, Nashville Chatter spotted a certification from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (CMIIT) for a device with the model number SM-F9000 — suspected to be the Galaxy Fold.
Reports surrounding model number SM-F900 surfaced in November. SamMobile also reported that firmware version F900USQU0ARJ5 was being tested by Samsung. SM-F900U is expected to be the model number for the US phone, while Europe and Asia will get the SM-F900F and SM-F900N variants, respectively.

Plans revealed for a massive atom smasher that dwarfs the Large Hadron Collider
The famous Large Hadron Collider, an insanely massive particle accelerator that’s helped scientists crack some of the most deeply hidden mysteries of the universe, is about to be dwarfed by an atom smasher that’s much bigger and more powerful.
European physicists have just unveiled their proposal for the construction of a new particle smasher that calls for a 62-mile circular collider costing roughly the equivalent of $10 billion. Plans for the so-called Future Circular Collider were revealed Tuesday in a report by officials associated with the European Organization for Nuclear Research, better known by its acronym of CERN.

‘The Office’ creator and Steve Carell team up for Netflix show about Trump’s ‘Space Force’
Well, now we know why Steve Carell can’t be bothered with a reboot of The Office like everyone has been clamoring for. He’s too busy with a just-announced Netflix comedy that has an interesting Trump connection.
Carell is teaming up with Greg Daniels, the co-creator of The Office, for a new workplace comedy coming to Netflix. So far, so good, right? Just wait, though, we haven’t even gotten around to describing said workplace yet. This show is actually going to be focused on the men and women bringing to life the idea the Trump administration first unveiled last year — the creation of an entirely new branch of the military called Space Force.
