Top Samsung insider leaks great news about the Galaxy S10+’s battery life

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A series of leaks over the past few weeks revealed various details about Samsung’s unreleased Galaxy S10 phones, including the fact that the new handsets will have bigger batteries than their predecessors. The Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ should rock higher-capacity batteries than you’d find on the Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 9 — that’s 3,500 mAh and 4,000 mAh, respectively. Whether or not they’re getting faster charging technology than before, these are still more than decent capacities for the upcoming flagships. Then we had an unexpected surprise: a Samsung insider claimed that the Plus phone would be just 7.8mm thick, which is very impressive. If true, it means Samsung managed to stuff bigger batteries in phones that are even thinner than their predecessors.

The smartphone of our dreams was just unveiled, and it’s not made by Apple or Samsung

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A Chinese smartphone maker whose products you hardly get to see in stores, let alone buy, came out of nowhere on Wednesday with a fantastic smartphone concept that packs features that aren’t available on any competing device this year, be it an iPhone XS or a Galaxy S10. But that phone packs 2018-grade hardware, and the smartphone of our dreams doesn’t deserve any sort of compromises. The good news is that there’s another Chinese smartphone maker whose products you probably can’t buy right now, who came up with an even better alternative, a high-end smartphone design, unlike anything the competition, including Apple and Samsung, are doing.

Thanks to 3 million patrons, Patreon will pay out $500M to artists and creators this year

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The online membership platform Patreon has been growing like gangbusters since it was launched in 2013 — and especially lately, at the expense of sites like YouTube that have changed up their algorithms and their advertising guidelines, demonetizing some creators’ content and seemingly making it harder for those creators and artists to generate revenue from their work.

Indeed, Patreon has been growing so fast that the company today announced it expects to pay out more than half a billion dollars to the platform’s artists and creators this year. That’s thanks to another big milestone the company simultaneously announced today — the fact that Patreon now has a whopping 3 million patrons supporting more than 100,000 creators on the service.

Rumor says the Nintendo Switch will receive a major hardware upgrade this year

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Nintendo is still selling more consoles than its rivals, a recent report said, even though the device is nearing its second birthday, and some of the excitement may have died down. A Wall Street Journal report said in early October that the company has been mulling a hardware upgrade for 2019.

Nintendo was still debating hardware and software upgrades at the time, but the report did claim that the 2019 Switch refresh would deliver a better, slimmer, and more energy-efficient LCD screen than the original. A new report now offers some actual specs for the new Switch, but it’s too early to get excited about them.

NBC execs just reassured everyone ‘The Office’ won’t leave Netflix anytime soon

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s like the streaming TV business’ version of that old will-they-or-won’t-they sitcom trope. Is Netflix in danger of losing The Office, the beloved workplace comedy series that ran on NBC for nine seasons — and which, several years after the final episode aired, still remains one of Netflix’s top properties? Or will Netflix pay a handsome fee to keep it around, a la the multi-million dollar deal the streamer recently struck to keep Friends for at least another year?

The wildcard here is the forthcoming Netflix rival being launched by the parent company of NBC Entertainment, which would presumably want to bring a property as hot as The Office back into its fold.

There’s a new fake Moon landing theory, and it’s dumber than you could possibly imagine

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA’s Apollo 11 mission landed astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon in July of 1969, but that’s not what some would have you believe.

Conspiracy theories about NASA having allegedly faked the Moon landings are not new. They all focus on the idea that NASA shot footage of supposed lunar excursions in a movie studio right here on Earth, but a new theory by a seasoned conspiracy pusher really takes the cake in terms of utter absurdity.

Oracle accused of shortchanging female and minority employees to the tune of $400 million

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

According to a new legal filing levied by the US Department of Labor this week, Oracle stands accused of engaging in discriminatory pay practices that shortchanged women and other minority employees to the tune of $400 million. The suit alleges that Oracle not only assigned minority employees to lower-paying positions, but also “channelled” them into lower-paying career paths.

The new allegations — which are part of a lawsuit filed early last year — are quite sensational and come at a time when many Silicon Valley companies are already in the hot seat over a glaring lack of diversity in the workplace. Of course, and as the lawsuit demonstrates, a diverse work environment by itself isn’t sufficient when demonstrable pay gaps within the work force are observed and widespread.

Boeing just got one step closer to making its autonomous flying taxi a reality

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If companies like Boeing get their way, a day is coming soon when we won’t have to resign ourselves anymore to the frustration of congested roadways and gridlocked city streets once flying taxis become a real thing.

One of the next battlegrounds for traditional aviation companies, tech firms and start-ups is the race to develop the first working self-flying air taxis — helicopter-like vehicles designed to carry people a short distance and which open up all kinds of possibilities especially for ridesharing companies like Uber, which wants to build a flying taxi service called Uber Air.
