The world’s loneliest duck has been murdered
For about a year, the tiny Pacific island of Niue had a mallard duck population of exactly one. Trevor, a friendly duck that showed up on the island out of seemingly nowhere, quickly became a local celebrity, which is fairly easy when the human population of the entire island is only around 1,600.
He was a beloved mascot for island dwellers, but it now seems as though his life has been cut tragically short. Local fans who maintain a Facebook page dedicated to the duck have confirmed that he was found dead near his favorite puddle, and a pack of dogs are the suspected culprits.

MIT scientists built a system that uses lasers to beam sound to your ears that no one else can hear
Hearing someone across a crowded room can be close to impossible thanks to the way sound waves spread, but what if we could project audio with the same precision that we can project light?
Researchers from MIT have developed a system capable of doing just that, creating a targeted audio stream that can be fired at a person’s ears in much the same way that a laser pointer fires a beam of light. It’s accurate, safe, and can transmit music and even speech to a target without being heard by others.

NASA is sending a desperate message to wake up Opportunity on Mars
Just last week NASA celebrated the beginning of the Opportunity rover’s 16th year on the Martian surface, but all is not well with the six-wheeled robot. Opportunity has been dead quiet for over six months after falling asleep in a planet-wide dust storm, and NASA is understandably concerned.
The rover’s solar panels couldn’t gather the power it needed to sustain itself, and the rover simply hasn’t woken back up in the months since the skies have cleared. Now, in what might be a last-ditch effort to continue the Opportunity mission, NASA is sending commands to the rover in the hopes that it’ll snap out of its funk.

Surprise: Amazon Prime Video has nearly 5 times as many movies as Netflix
Quality or quantity? Which is more important to you when it comes to choosing a streaming service? If you prefer to have as many options as possible, there’s really only one choice: Amazon Prime Video. According to the most recent data from Streaming Observer, Amazon Prime Video has a library of 17,461 movies. That’s more than four and a half times as large as Netflix’s library of 3,839 movies, while Hulu has just 2,336 movies.
But then there’s the question of quality. Having more content than the competition is great, but do we actually want to watch any of those 17,000+ movies? Maybe not, because while Netflix has a whopping 592 movies that are Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, Prime Video has just 232. That’s only 9 more than Hulu.

New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ theory dreams up the most dramatic ending you can imagine
If Avengers: Infinity War shocked us for killing half of the living creatures in the universe, including half of our beloved heroes, then you can expect the same thing from the sequel — it’s going to be shocking, but hopefully without another massacre. We do expect some Avengers to give up their lives while trying to bring order to the universe. That’s what Thanos did as well. He lost Gamora for the Mind Stone, and several of his beloved servants who have been with him for years in his quest to bring balance to the universe perished at the hands of Avengers. Once Endgame finally wraps up though, it looks like several Avengers might die… and not just the usual suspects.

Report: Apple is planning a Netflix-like subscription service for games
It’s indicative of the new world we live in that Apple is reportedly planning to package some of its content into yet another subscription offering that consumers will need to consider and find room in their budgets for, alongside Netflix, cable and countless other subscriptions they’re already paying for each month.
A new report from Cheddar, citing five unnamed sources, says that Apple is preparing to launch a Netflix-like subscription service for games. Which, at least from Apple’s perspective, makes sense, given that most of its App Store revenue at this point is attributable to games and could presumably serve as a strong basis for recurring revenue.
