Apple’s iPhone 11 design and specs may have just leaked

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’ve seen a couple of contradicting iPhone 11 renders in the past few weeks, and they came from the same well-known leaker that produced similar illustrations in the past. The first alleged iPhone 11 design featured a square triple-lens camera arrangement on the back with an asymmetric lens placement. Then the second design showed a horizontal rear camera module featuring three lenses. Now a new report claims that one of these two proposed iPhone 11 designs is indeed moving to production, and thankfully it’s the better of the two.

We finally know when Apple’s TV streaming service will launch

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Over the past few months, Apple has been busy inking original content deals with some of the top creatives in Hollywood. Last year, for example, word emerged that Apple struck a deal for an original film series from acclaimed writer and director Damien Chazelle, the creative force between films such as La La Land and Whiplash.

Apple of course hasn’t commented on what it plans to do with the growing library of video content its amassing, but it’s no secret that the company is planning to make a big splash into the world of online streaming. Now comes word from The Information that Apple’s budding TV streaming service is set to launch sometime in mid-April. While details remain scarce, previous reports have indicated that Apple’s streaming TV service will be free for iOS users and will be available in 100 countries at launch.

Apple disables Group FaceTime as it races to fix a serious bug affecting FaceTime calls

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Major tech leaders like Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian started warning their Twitter followers late Monday to disable FaceTime on their Apple devices in light of a major software bug that Apple has acknowledged.

As explained by 9to5Mac, the bug is pretty bad. It lets you initiate a call to anyone via FaceTime and to immediately start hearing audio from the other person you’re calling before they’ve either accepted or rejected the call. As if you’re just — turning on a microphone at will in the room of almost anyone you’d want to listen to. Apple actually disabled the Group FaceTime capability on Monday as it works on a fix, which the iPhone maker says is coming later this week via a software update.

Curiosity snaps a selfie before heading off to new adventures

NASA may be on the edge of its seat as it waits to see if its aging Opportunity rover will wake back up from its extended downtime, but it’s not the only piece of scientific hardware on the Red Planet. The trusty Curiosity rover is still going strong, and after spending over a year at its current location on the Vera Rubin Ridge, it’s ready to move on.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory announced Curiosity’s move today and showed off a fancy selfie the rover snapped before it began its journey. The rover will now travel south towards a new area of the large geographical feature known as Mount Sharp.

Samsung finally launched phones with notches, but didn’t copy Apple’s design

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We were assaulted with phones with notches for most of 2018, as every smartphone maker that matters (aside from Samsung) copied Apple’s design. Some people mistakenly believe that phones like the first Essential handset an unpopular Sharp phone that brought notches to prominence. But there’s no question that, without Apple, we wouldn’t have had this explosion of notch handsets from all sorts of Android vendors.

In the second half of 2018, we did see plenty of no-notch, all-screen alternatives, proving that some device makers do want to differentiate themselves from Apple, as well as new notch designs that looked nothing like the iPhone X. And, soon enough, we’ll see Samsung’s true answer to the iPhone X/XS design: The Galaxy S10 with its Infinity-O screen. But until that happens, we’ll have to settle for Samsung’s first phones with notches, which look a lot more like OnePlus 6T alternatives than iPhone XS rivals.

Nintendo hasn’t given up on 3D gaming, and may even bring it to the Switch

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

After the release of the Nintendo 3DS way back in 2011, Nintendo eventually decided to deep-six the signature 3D feature in a later release and manufactured a plain ol’ 2DS system for those fans who didn’t want the extra immersive quality. But just because the company backtracked slightly, that doesn’t mean Nintendo threw in the towel completely on 3D gaming. On the contrary — a new patent reveals the company has been looking at a new way of bringing this feature to TVs, presumably for inclusion with the Nintendo Switch.

New concept video shows us the iPhone 11 we wish Apple would make

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With 2019 in full swing, we’ve already started to see a number of iPhone 11 renders emerge from the rumor mill. The renders we’ve seen thus far all feature distinctive designs, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that Apple is reportedly still working with a number of iPhone 11 prototypes at this point.

This early into the year, it’s a safe bet that the iPhone designs we’ve seen thus far are still in the Engineering Validation Test (EVT) phase, which essentially means that the company is still finalizing the overall design and feature-set of its next-gen iPhone lineup.
