Leaked Galaxy S10+ press renders showcase Samsung’s final design
With less than a month to go before MWC begins in Barcelona, virtually everything there is to know about Samsung’s new slate of smartphones has already leaked. We know about the design changes, we’ve heard about the upgraded specs, and we expect to see Samsung’s first foldable phone in the flesh. The only thing we had yet to see were the final renders of the phones themselves, but, once again, the surprise has been spoiled.
On Thursday, 91mobiles shared what it claims are official press renders of the Galaxy S10+. We’ve seen countless unofficial renders based off of rumors, reports, and factory CADs, but these press renders showcase what is likely to be the true design of the 6.4-inch smartphone — one which Samsung will debut next month.

Mark Zuckerberg finally told us when Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp messaging will merge
A report a few days ago revealed that Mark Zuckerberg directed teams working on the various Facebook chat apps to create a unified instant messaging app that would incorporate Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. The resulting product would support end-to-end encryption and would allow any user of one of Facebook’s services to chat with any user of any of any other Facebook product. WhatsApp users would be able to talk to Instagram users and Facebook users without needing accounts on each platform. At the time, I told you that Facebook’s unified chat system would let you leave Facebook without worrying about to being able to talk to some of your Facebook fans. It turns out, however, that the plans for this messaging platform are still being worked out, according to Zuckerberg.

Hulu is about to start showing ads when you pause, and this is what they’ll look like
Starting in the second quarter, Hulu is going to start slotting ads into a new spot on its popular video streaming platform.
It’s an all-new ad experience the streamer has come up with that it calls “pause ads,” and they’ll work just like the name implies. Whenever you’re watching a show or movie on Hulu and hit pause, what you see now is screen real estate that stays frozen and unused, while you ran to make a sandwich or maybe answered the phone. At some point, though, Hulu realized it could make money by selling space and running ads on those paused screens, and in just a few months it’s going to start doing exactly that. In fact, it’s already testing this ad format with two brands.

Sorry, but a hole-punch display isn’t any better than a notch display
Like any other industry, trends come and go fairly quickly in the smartphone market. The same will be true in 2019, when a nifty new design trend makes its way to store shelves. Beginning in 2017, smartphone designs were all about the notch. Apple wasn’t the first phone maker to cut a chunk out of a smartphone screen — LG has that honor courtesy of the V10 smartphone it released all the way back in 2015 — but no one would deny that Apple is responsible for the boom in smartphone notches that began in late 2017 with the iPhone X. Once Apple’s tenth-anniversary iPhone design began to leak, nearly every smartphone maker on the planet rushed to copy it. The end result was a bit embarrassing since just about every Android phone maker on the planet released phones that were spitting images of the iPhone X, but seeing Android phone makers copy Apple’s designs is obviously nothing new.
In 2019, something new is happening, though. For the first time in a long time, Apple is no longer responsible for starting a major smartphone design trend. Instead, it was Samsung’s announcement last year that it was building smartphone displays with holes cut into them instead of notches. This way, rather than have a larger amount of space consumed by a notch, phone screens only need tiny little holes that allow the selfie cameras to peek through. It’s a cool new design and it’ll definitely be all the rage this year, but the truth is that it really isn’t any better than Apple’s old notch design.
