It wasn’t just the teen Fortnite player – someone else also discovered that FaceTime bug
In the note Apple included to accompany the release of iOS 12.1.4 this week — the one that included a fix for the embarrassing FaceTime bug — the iPhone maker appropriately gives credit to 14-year-old Grant Thompson from Arizona for bringing to light this critical problem. In fact, Apple has acknowledged that it’s paying Grant for discovering the bug, which he did about two weeks ago while playing Fortnite and trying to get a group FaceTime chat with friends set up.
Grant’s mother tried to contact Apple about the bug, which allowed users with the latest iOS software to initiate a call to anyone via FaceTime and immediately start hearing audio on the other person’s end even before they accepted or rejected the call. Once the media picked up on the issue, that’s when Apple got in touch with her.

The SpaceX Starship’s Raptor engines just hit a major milestone
If there’s one thing we can always count on from SpaceX it’s that Elon Musk will let everyone know of new developments the moment they happen via Twitter. That’s exactly what happened last night, as Musk’s early morning tweets revealed that the ongoing engine tests of the company’s Raptor engines are coming along nicely.
According to Musk’s brief update, it looks like the Raptor engines that will power both the upcoming Starship and Super Heavy now have enough oomph to push the spacecraft as planned. The news comes just days after SpaceX showed off its Raptor engines being test fired for the first time, so confirming that the hardware is capable of reaching the power levels the spacecraft require is obviously a big milestone.

Android fans reveal the iPhone features they’re most jealous of
There’s obviously no question that 2007 marked the dawn of a new era in the global smartphone market. Industry giants like Nokia, Microsoft, and BlackBerry, which was at the time called Research In Motion, all scoffed when Apple first debuted the iPhone. The device was so simple and basic compared to phones that ran older smartphone platforms, including BlackBerry OS, Windows Mobile, and Symbian which was by far the most popular smartphone operating system on the planet at the time. How could such a simple device compete when it lacked all of the complex features available on these larger platforms?
Fast forward to 2019, and none of the companies that dominated the smartphone market back then are blips on the radar anymore. Nokia and BlackBerry completely collapsed; the companies don’t even exist anymore as they did back then. Nokia’s mobile business was sold off to Microsoft, Microsoft’s mobile business has been burned to the ground, and BlackBerry’s hardware business was licensed to a third-party phone maker that doesn’t even sell enough phones to have a measurable market share. Meanwhile, most of the companies that followed Apple’s lead (or just blatantly copied Apple and stole all of the iPhone’s best design features) remain players in the market today.

The Galaxy S10’s biggest Android rival just leaked, and it’s set to launch in March
There’s no question that the iPhone remains Samsung’s biggest nightmare when it comes to high-end smartphones, but the iPhone also happens to be a massive moneymaker for Samsung’s other divisions. That said, 2018 showed us that Samsung’s got one other tremendous competitor it has to deal with, one that also manufactures high-end Android phones, thus directly targeting buyers who would usually go for Samsung phones. And the competition will only intensify this year, with both companies expected to launch a variety of exciting flagships in the coming months.
