Yet more evidence points to Apple developing a foldable iPhone

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There’s no question that Samsung is the first company that comes to mind when talking about foldable phones, and that’s because the Korean company has been teasing this new form factor for several years. An increasing number of reports said some three years ago that Samsung was getting ready to launch a foldable phone, but Samsung kept delaying it. The handset is finally hitting stores in 2019, but Samsung will have plenty of competition from several major Chinese smartphone makers, including Huawei and Xiaomi.

Apple, meanwhile, has been working on its own foldable devices for quite a while, although, as with any other Apple project, the foldable iPhone is very secret. Nonetheless, there’s plenty of evidence to support the idea that Apple is interested in foldable devices, and we just got even more proof that such a handset may be in the making.

Samsung couldn’t wait for next week’s Unpacked event to announce new retail plans

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In response to what it says is customer demand for more places where they can experiment with and get a first hand-look at new products, Samsung has announced it’s going to be opening three retail stores around the US next week, on the same day as the company holds its Galaxy Unpacked 2019 event.

The move, Samsung explained in an announcement about the stores, also builds on related efforts like Samsung organizing pop-up locations around the country that let people experiment with VR-related and other gadgets. The company also opened its immersive Samsung 837 facility — which the South Korea-based giant has described as a kind of playground for new technology — in New York City’s Meatpacking District. Now, it’s time for something more.

Wild new study suggests blindness may protect against mental illness

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Schizophrenia is a puzzling disorder for medical professionals. It’s a mental illness that can be treated but nobody really knows what causes it in the first place, posing a challenge from a preventative standpoint. Nobody knows what signs to look for early on that reliably predict the development of the disorder, but a new study suggests a rather unlikely link.

The research, which was conducted by a team at the University of Western Australia, reveals that individuals born blind or who become blind very shortly after birth may actually be protected from schizophrenia as well as other mental disorders. The only problem? Scientists have no idea why.

Diet soda may dramatically increase your risk of heart attack and stroke, study shows

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’re watching your weight to start the new year you might be tempted to opt for anything labeled “diet.” As it turns out, diet soda might not be the best choice if you actually care about your health, as a new study warns that indulging in low-calorie beverages packed with sugar substitutes could put you in an early grave.

The study, which was published in the journal Stroke, examined the long-term health of over 80,000 women who volunteered to have health check-ins decades after the fact. The data relied on self-reported consumption of what the scientists call ASB, or “artificially sweetened beverages.”

This ‘Avengers: Endgame’ theory explains why Doctor Strange needs Iron Man alive

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Doctor Strange surprised many at the end of Avengers: Infinity War when he did the one thing he said he wouldn’t. He traded the Time Stone, which he swore to protect at all costs, for the life of one single man. But you’d probably change your mind too, had you seen more than 14 million versions of the same losing battle. A new fan theory says that Strange had to make sure Iron Man survives the defeat on Titan in order for the Avengers to ultimately win. This was the only way they could pull it off, as Strange said back in Infinity War.
