Everything new coming to Netflix this week, and everything leaving (week of Feb. 17)
Following a busy week full of potential (and legitimate) blockbusters, Netflix has a selection full of question marks this week, along with a couple of familiar properties. Once again, everything coming to the streaming service this week is an original film or series, but the only one that I recognized was Chef’s Table, which returns for Volume 6.
Of the five original films launching this week, Paddleton was the one to catch my eye. Starring Ray Romano and Mark Duplass, it’s a dramedy about two neighbors who find themselves inextricably linked together when one is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Romano isn’t on TV or in movies quite as often as he once was, but he seems to make it count when he is (see: The Big Sick). The good news is that we’re not losing anything of value this week.

Don’t spend hundreds on an Apple Watch when this $67 smartwatch has sleep tracking and 30-day battery life
The Apple Watch is outstanding and sleek, but there are several shortcomings and even some desirable features that it doesn’t have. For example, it doesn’t work with Android phones and it doesn’t support sleep tracking at all. If you want all that and more in a smartwatch that costs a fraction of the price and lasts for up to 30 days per charge instead of less than 2 days, the Amazfit Bip Smartwatch by Huami is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Amazfit Bip Smartwatch by Huami with All-Day Heart Rate and Activity Tracking, Sleep Monitoring…: $67.49
Here’s the key info from the product page:

Special sport modes (running, treadmill, cycling and walking) give you even more detailed insights into your most frequent activities.
- Be in the Know: The perfect companion to keep you organized and productive all day long. Receive one-way notifications for emails, SMS messages, and incoming phone calls (prompting you to take action on your smartphone), as well as alerts for Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Snap, Slack, weather forecasts, and other mobile apps

This space harpoon might finally be the answer to all the junk floating around Earth
NASA and other space agencies around the world have accomplished some seriously amazing things in space, but there’s been a big price to pay for those adventures, and not just financially. The space around Earth is now cluttered with what is lovingly referred to as “space junk” — bits of rockets, long-dead satellites, and other debris — and someone is going to have to clean it up sooner or later.
There have been many proposal and attempts to develop systems that could aid in clearing the trash out of Earth orbit, but progress has been slow. Net systems and other concepts have been tested, but a new space harpoon test looks like it might be a winner.

Man who strangled mountain lion in self-defense tells his story
Last week, news broke of a then-unidentified man who was forced to defend himself against a mountain lion when it attacked him on a recreational trail in Colorado. He’s spent the time since the attack recovering from his injuries, and he’s now come forward and identified himself as Travis Kauffman.
Kauffman’s tale of how he dispatched the feline predator with his bare hands is rather dramatic, and in a new video published by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife group he explains exactly how the dangerous scenario played out.

Smart plugs are so awesome, especially now that winter weather has arrived in full force. New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ theory says one of our favorite heroes knew about the snap all along
Avengers: Endgame will be a movie about the remaining heroes trying to undo the snap and restore order to the universe. We already know as much, although we don’t know exactly how it’ll happen. We also know that they will win no matter how much it hurts us to witness their sacrifices — there’s no question about it, considering that we’re looking at the one future Doctor Strange saw where Thanos loses the fight. I mean, think about it: Marvel won’t make a movie about any of the other 14 million fights where they lose again. But there may be a character who’s been waiting for the snap to occur all along. And if that’s the case, then it means this character also knows what needs to be done in order to defeat Thanos.

The world’s biggest movie isn’t ‘Infinity War’ – or anything else you’ve heard of
If any of you were scratching your head as to why DC’s Aquaman actually started showing to moviegoers in China before hitting US cinemas, maybe this will help put things in context.
As a testament to the size of the box office there and the scale of what a successful movie looks like in the country, the biggest film in the world right now is actually a Chinese picture. It’s bigger than Infinity War, bigger than anything Marvel — indeed, than anything you’ve heard of. The movie we’re talking about is The Wandering Earth, a sci-fi flick based on work by novelist Liu Cixin with a story that’s built around Chinese astronauts trying to keep earth from being destroyed by the sun.
