Leaked OnePlus 7 renders and a real-life photo suggest a massive design change is in the works

We saw a brand new OnePlus handset at MWC 2019 last week, but that was the company’s first 5G phone dressed in annoying camouflage meant to prevent any details from leaking. It’s still unclear whether the OnePlus 5G phone will be a variation of the OnePlus 7 handset expected to drop in the first half of the year, but the 5G model will launch next quarter, the Chinese vendor said. OnePlus also revealed one thing about the OnePlus 7 during the show, that the phone won’t support wireless charging, which is hardly a surprise. But since then we’ve learned new things about the handset, as press renders showing the phone, as well as a real-life photo have just leaked.

Samsung can’t wait for foldable iPhones and Pixel phones

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Galaxy Fold is hardly the best looking foldable smartphone of the first wave of foldable devices that were just unveiled, but that doesn’t mean Samsung doesn’t have a significant advantage over Huawei. The Korean giant develops its own smartphone display tech, whereas Huawei has to buy it from other suppliers. And Samsung Display happens to be the market leader of OLED smartphone screens. Therefore, it’s not surprising to hear that Samsung is ready to support foldable iPhone and Pixel phones, as it has supplied foldable screen samples to both Apple and Google.

Scientists gave mice infrared vision, but could they do the same for humans?

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Mice are already masters of lurking in the shadows, well out of sight of prying human eyes, but researchers in the U.S. and China just turned a few of them into serious superheroes. The mice, which are normally equipped with eyes capable only of seeing visible light, like us humans, have instead been given the ability to see near infrared light, effectively allowing them to see in the dark.

By injecting specially designed nanoparticles directly into the eyes of the mice, the animals exhibited the ability to see near infrared light. Even more remarkable, the vision augmentation doesn’t appear to have negatively affected the daylight vision of the mice.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ theory explains why Doctor Strange saw 14,000,605 versions of the future

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Doctor Strange is instrumental to the Avengers defeating Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. He’s seen it all go down more than 14 million times and knows that only one version of the future will bring them victory. He may have even messed with events from the past to ensure that the future they’re in will play out exactly as it needs to for them to win. One fan theory proposed that Strange spent 5,000 years looking at all these scenarios, and that he may have interfered with them while he was on Titan. It may have all seemed like just a few minutes, but he could have been in there for quite a while after creating a time loop that would let him explore all possible scenarios. But why did he stop at 14,000,605 futures? Why was he so specific? A beautiful new theory brings math into the movie to explain it all.

Everything new coming to Netflix this week, and everything leaving (week of Mar. 3)

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The first full week of March brings with it a smattering of interesting additions to the Netflix library. One such addition is Disney’s Christopher Robin, which didn’t quite receive universal praise, but does bring Winnie the Pooh and his friends into the real world in a truly creative (and almost obnoxiously cute) way.

We’re also getting a ton of Netflix originals that I’m totally unfamiliar with, as well as three seasons of the excellent Hunter x Hunter anime, for all you fans of Japanese animation. Sadly, we’re losing a decent Pirates of the Caribbean movie too, as well as the fantastically awful Click, starring none other than Adam Sandler.

More people bought physical CDs and vinyl than songs on iTunes last year

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Sales from individual song downloads have unsurprisingly been falling with no end in sight, thanks to the convenience of streaming options like Spotify and Apple Music. A new report, though, makes clear just how few people there are these days who will buy individual digital songs — there are so few of them, in fact, that they were outnumbered in 2018 by people who went old-school and bought actual compact discs and vinyl records.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, total download sales in 2018 — for which iTunes led the pack — dropped almost 30%, to a little more than $1 billion. Purchases of full album downloads likewise fell, by 25%.

Massive alien fish washes ashore in California

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It was only a couple of years ago that scientists finally confirmed the existence of a new, huge species of saltwater fish called the Hoodwinker Sunfish. The fish, which was named in honor of its remarkable ability to remain undocumented for so long, is one of a handful of large sunfish species.

Now, one such fish made its presence known in Southern California, washing ashore where it was eventually discovered by passersby. Seeing a seven-foot sea creature resting in its sandy grave is obviously a striking sight no matter what, but the incident became even more interesting when researchers revealed just how far the fish was from home.
