Samsung exec defends the controversial Galaxy Fold design no one else seems to like
There’s no question that Samsung’s foldable Galaxy Fold flagship phone was one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones of the season ahead of its announcement last month. There’s also no question that Huawei completely stole the show just a few days later when it unveiled the foldable Mate X smartphone. The Galaxy Fold and Mate X are two of the first smartphones in the world to feature displays that fold open to nearly double in size, and this type of design is seen as becoming increasingly popular in the coming years as prices decline. While Samsung and Huawei are both seen leading the foldable charge, they chose two very different designs for their first folding smartphones.
Ask anyone to close his or her eyes and envision a foldable smartphone, something pretty close to the Galaxy Fold will likely be described. The device features a large main display that’s situated on the inside of the phone when it is folded closed. Then there’s a second smaller screen on the outside that lights up when the Galaxy Fold is closed and in phone mode. The Huawei Mate X, on the other hand, has a single large display that wraps around the outside of the device when it’s folded. Both designs certainly have their merits, but Huawei’s phone is the one that everybody seems to prefer. Now, a Samsung executive has responded to all the criticism and defended his company’s first foldable Galaxy phone.

Get a year of Netflix Premium with 4K streaming when you sign up for Fios Triple Play
This is a sponsored article and all content and opinions expressed within are of the author.
Why are so many people cutting the cord these days? It’s not a trick question, the answer is obvious: they want to save money. Cable rates have gotten more and more expensive over the years, and for a while, there was nothing anyone could do — if you wanted internet and TV service, you had to pay the price. Now that there are alternatives, however, people are seeking them out and taking advantage of them.
Of course, using any of the lower-cost streaming services out there means you still have to pay for internet, but slow speeds may not suffice if you want a reliable, virtually buffer-free viewing experience. And if you’re multitasking on other devices or have a household full of people all trying to stream content at the same time, then you definitely want a lot of bandwidth.
What if we told you that there’s an affordable way to get lightning-fast internet service along with a TV and home phone bundle, on a fiber optic network with 99.9% reliability? What if we told you that you can also get a year of Netflix Premium with 4K streaming1 as well at no additional charge when you sign a 2-year agreement? Well, it just so happens that there’s a Fios deal available right now and it’s exactly what you’ve been dreaming of.
For $79.99 per month with Auto Pay and 2-yr. agreement, plus taxes, equipment charges & other fees, you can get Fios Gigabit Connection (with internet speeds up to 940/880 Mbps) as well as a Custom TV package and home phone service. On top of that, you get a year of Netflix’s Premium plan included. The Premium plan has everything you would get with Netflix’s Basic plan, but you also get access to all of Netflix’s 4K streaming content and you can watch simultaneously on up to four 4K-enabled screens instead of just two. With Fios, you can launch Netflix from your advanced voice remote or even access it right from within the Fios channel guide.
Netflix Premium normally costs $15.99 a month, so this is obviously a fantastic offer. Of note, if you’re already a Netflix subscriber Fios will cover the cost of your current subscription for one year.
Here’s a breakdown, just to ensure that you didn’t miss anything:
- Download speeds up to 940 Mbps
- Upload speeds up to 880 Mbps
- Custom TV with 200+ channels (choose from seven channel packages)
- Home Phone service
- Netflix Premium included for one year
This new deal requires a 2-year agreement and you get a 2-year price guarantee. Fios’ new deal is only available for a limited time though, so head over to the Fios website to learn more and sign up.
If you’re not interested in the Triple Play, don’t worry because Fios has two more great options for you. You can get Fios Gigabit Connection plus 1 year of Netflix Premium and a complementary Wi-Fi $79.99 per month with Auto Pay, plus taxes, equipment charges & other fees, or you can choose Fios 300/300 Mbps service and 6 months of Netflix for $59.99 per month with Auto Pay, plus taxes, equipment charges & other fees.
When you sign up to Fios, you get the following benefits:
- My Rewards+ Points – Earn points that can be redeemed for movies or premium channel upgrades
- Discounts on accessories such as $50 off Bose Quiet Comfort Headphones (Promo runs 3/1 – 3/31)
- Stream on-demand, recorded content on-the-go and on any device with the Fios App
- Customer support 24/7 including social chat support

Insider says the Galaxy S10 will sell better than expected because it’s nothing like the iPhone XS
Galaxy S10 sales are off to a flying start, according to some reports, with Samsung having already run out of free Galaxy Buds wireless headphones that were bundled with the more expensive versions. Some Galaxy S10 models were already sold out in the US last week, just a few days after preorders, and the phone is doing well in Korea too, according to some estimates. An insider seems to think the Galaxy S10 will do even better than initially expected, and that’s partly because the Galaxy S10 is nothing like the iPhone XS and XR models that were released last fall.

Your brain makes decisions before you even realize it
You make countless decisions every day that range from mundane to incredibly important, but what part of you is actually making those decisions? We all assume that our brains are focused on whatever task we’re tackling, but a new study suggests that your brain is usually working a few steps ahead all on its own, and it makes your decisions long before you consciously think about them.
The study, which was published in Scientific Reports, reveals that what we often think of as free will and our ability to make decisions on the fly isn’t nearly as cut-and-dry. Your brain, it turns out, might be running the show largely in the background.

No one asked for it, but researchers built another back-flipping robot anyway
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology describe the new robot they just built and unveiled as “powerful, robust and inexpensive.” Among its abilities, the robot can run, walk and (sigh) execute a perfect backflip upon command. This is either an impressive display of mechanical engineering prowess or a worrisome development, depending on your point of view.
This is also the first time a four-legged robot has been built with the ability to backflip, which you can see occur in the clip above. The robot crouches down a bit, then shoves itself into the air.

The first all-female spacewalk is about to take place on the International Space Station
When it comes to gender equality, NASA’s long history definitely has a few blemishes. Some incredibly influential women who made NASA what it is today waited a long time to get the recognition they deserved from the start, but things are quite a bit different today. NASA celebrates the accomplishments of the many highly qualified women who fill its ranks, and a couple of them are about to perform a truly history spacewalk.
NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Christina Koch are both currently residents of the International Space Station, and they’ll be conducting the first all-female spacewalk later this month.

Fitbit unveils four new wearable devices that won’t break the bank
Fitbit is making a play for new customers who don’t currently sport one of the company’s wearables on their wrists by unveiling four new, more affordable devices today. These include a smartwatch and three activity trackers, one of which is meant for kids to help them start learning healthy habits early.
The news comes at the same time as Fitbit is also planning to roll out a “major redesign” of the companion mobile app that works with its wearable devices, with the new design intended to make it easier for users to understand their health and fitness stats. Users will also be able to better connect with Fitbit’s global health and fitness social community, in addition to enjoying the benefits of Fitbit Focus — a new section at the top of the app’s dashboard that will deliver insights, messages and tips.

Tesla Model Y unveiling set for next week – here’s what we know so far
It’s been a wild few days for Tesla. Last Thursday, the company temporarily took the order pages for the Model S, Model 3, and Model X offline and, in their place, put up a somewhat cryptic message stating that the “wait is almost over.”
Ultimately, Tesla announced that the long-promised $35,000 Tesla Model 3 would soon be available for purchase and delivery. While that would normally be welcome news, shares of Tesla immediately tanked upon word that Tesla would not be profitable during the first quarter of 2019. Meanwhile, Elon Musk over the weekend announced that Tesla would unveil its Model Y crossover vehicle on March 14. Though this would ordinarily be met with excitement, some skeptics believe that the timing was purposeful, if not panicked, and simply intended to distract investors from a non-profitable Q1.

One of the earliest exoplanet discoveries was just confirmed after a decade
When it comes to searching for objects outside of our own solar system, sometimes things aren’t always as they first appear. NASA’s Kepler space telescope spent its almost-decade in space searching for distant worlds never before seen by mankind. It found plenty, but some discoveries were easier to verify than others, and the very first exoplanet ever detected by Kepler has only just been confirmed.
When scientists first notice evidence of an exoplanet in data from Kepler or any other telescope, that data has to be studied closely to see if it is indeed what it appears to be. Anomalies in the data can result in false positives, and confirmation can take a long, long time.
