NASA explains why it didn’t have enough space suits for an all-female spacewalk
This was supposed to be a history-making week for NASA, with the first all-female spacewalk originally planned to take place on Friday. Unfortunately, a last-second swap has led to one of the expected participants, Anne McClain, being replaced with fellow ISS inhabitant Nick Hague.
NASA’s explanation was that McClain wouldn’t have a space suit available to her for the spacewalk due to sizing, since Christina Koch will be wearing the medium-sized suit that McClain wore during her previous spacewalk last week. This left a lot of people scratching their heads. After all, NASA says there’s two of every size of space suit on board the ISS, so why can’t both McClain and Koch wear the same sized suits? Speaking with CNN, NASA representatives offered a deeper explanation.

New details about Google’s upcoming mid-range Pixel model just leaked
Bit by bit, we’re learning new details about the long-rumored mid-range Google Pixel model that’s been the subject of speculation for almost a year now.
It seems that these next additions to Google’s reasonably successful Pixel line, which will reportedly be called the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, will be released in black, white and “iris” color finishes (with the latter looking like a mix between blue and purple). They’ll also be priced around 450 euros, or the equivalent of a little more than $500.

Some Galaxy S10 owners are are seeing lower signal strength than expected
As impressed as we were with the Galaxy S10 hardware when we got our hands on it late last month, the software is apparently not living up to expectations. Citing complaints from Galaxy S10 owners and its own tests, Android Police reported this week that Samsung’s latest flagship is suffering from signal strength issues. These issues seem to arise based on a variety of factors, including carrier, frequency, and even the use of a phone case.
While Sprint comes up frequently in this thread on the official Samsung community forums, S10 owners on AT&T and T-Mobile have chimed in as well. With over 252 replies in the thread, it’s clear that this isn’t an isolated problem, and countless threads have sprung up on Reddit as well with similar complaints.

The ‘godfathers of AI’ just won this year’s Turing Award
Facebook’s director of artificial intelligence research is one of three AI leaders who’ve won this year’s Turing Award, sometimes referred to as the Nobel Prize of computing.
This year’s winners include Yann LeCun, a New York University professor who also works on AI at Facebook; Geoffrey Hinton, a University of Toronto computer science professor; and Yoshua Bengio, a computer scientist and professor at the University of Montreal. The award, announced by the Association of Computing Machinery, carries a $1 million prize, with financial support from Google, and it’s named for famed British mathematician Alan Turing.

Samsung released a new video to prove how durable the Galaxy Fold is
With companies like Apple and Samsung releasing new flagship devices every year on a consistent schedule, we’ve grown somewhat spoiled. Back in the day, new phone releases engendered a lot of excitement as we saw significant advances in performance, mobile photography, and more. These days, though, it’s become a lot more challenging for smartphone manufacturers to impress consumers. As a prime example, Apple’s iPhone lineup last year didn’t exactly move the needle even though they marked the best bang for the buck we’ve ever seen from new iPhones.
With that said, it’s entirely possible that foldable smartphones represent the wave of the future. I’m a little bit skeptical but I’d love to be proven wrong. The exciting part in all of this is that we’ll likely find out sooner rather than later given that Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X are both slated to launch later this year.
