I really hope the iPhone 11 steals this incredible feature from Android phones
If I’m being honest, and I always am, I’m more than a little disappointed with what I’ve seen so far about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 11. Early information has leaked from multiple reliable sources, and it doesn’t paint a pretty picture. The world’s top Apple insider is analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and his sources say Apple’s iPhone 11 lineup will feature better waterproofing, a new frosted glass back, a bigger battery, the ability to wirelessly charge other devices, upgraded Face ID, and new rear cameras. That all sounds great of course, but there’s not really anything on that list to get excited about. Then, things got even worse when the iPhone 11’s “new” design was leaked by another well-known and reliable source. Why is “new” in quotes, you ask? Because it looks just like Apple’s old iPhone design, but with a rear camera that has been reoriented and centered.
If that big design leak pans out — and we have every reason to believe it will — Apple plans to use the same basic design for the third consecutive year on its upcoming new iPhone 11. It’ll look just like the iPhone XS, which looks just like the iPhone X. Making matters even worse is the fact that this would happen right after Apple left a different iPhone design mostly unchanged for three consecutive years; unless you’re an avid Apple fan, you might not even be able to tell the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 7 apart from across the room. If Apple does reuse its 2017 iPhone design yet again in 2019, it’ll hopefully pack some seriously exciting new features into the phone. There’s one such feature Apple could easily steal from new Android phones, and I really hope it does.

Huge spoiler: Someone who worked on ‘Avengers: Endgame’ confirmed a main character will die
Marvel Studios and Disney do everything they possibly can to prevent Avengers: Endgame spoilers from leaking. Try as they might, however, there are simply too many moving parts to keep everything secret. Hundreds of people had a hand in making the movie itself, and then there are plenty of partner companies involved with different aspects of the production and with marketing the movie. When you have that many people out there with inside information, some of it is bound to leak and there’s really nothing anyone can do to stop it.
With less than one month to go before Avengers: Endgame premieres in theaters across the globe, we’ve seen some pretty big leaks over the past week. Two in particular stand out from the crowd. First, a leak from a Lego toy set confirmed a key part of Avengers 4’s plot, and we now know how the remaining heroes plan to defeat Thanos and perhaps even how they’ll undo all the deaths from the snap. The source of the second big leak isn’t quite as solid, be he might have spoiled the entire movie by providing details about key events in each of Avengers: Endgame’s three acts. It might be a while before we can confirm the details of that big leak, but the latest Endgame leak can be confirmed right away because it comes from someone who actually worked on the film. A big spoiler lies ahead, so don’t read any further if you’d rather not spoil the surprise.

Microsoft becomes the hero we need by banning April Fool’s Day pranks
It seems like a lifetime ago, but there was actually a time where April Fools’ Day pranks from tech companies were novel, creative, and actually entertaining. More than a decade ago, for example, Google put together a fictitious account of how it uses pigeons to help organize its search results, a technology it dubbed PigeonRank. It was fun, it was innocent, and it was quite obviously all a joke.
These days, though, it seems that every single tech company on the planet is obsessed with rolling out April Fool’s Day pranks that are weighted more towards deception than quirky fun. The results can sometimes be beyond embarrassing, with Google’s 2016 Gmail Mic Drop prank being a prime example. If you recall, Google incorporated a special send button that added a gif of a minion from Despicable Me dramatically dropping a microphone at the bottom of emails. Additionally, recipients were unable to respond to such emails, hence the mic drop aspect. It seemed innocent enough, but users soon began hitting the wrong ‘send’ button by accident and chaos ensued.

NASA spots ‘Space Butterfly’ giving birth to new stars
Our Sun is one of the big reasons we’re all here today. It provides much of the energy needed for life to exist, and without it I wouldn’t be writing this and you wouldn’t be here to read it. We think of stars as ancient things that have been there forever but new ones are being created all the time, and NASA just captured a gorgeous image of a place where new stars are born.
NASA affectionately calls it a “Space Butterfly,” but in reality it’s a pair of massive gas clouds. Its official name is Westerhout 40 (W40), and it’s a nebula. W40 and nebulas like it are massive pockets of space where material like gas and stardust begins to coalesce into new objects like stars.

‘Game of Thrones’ fans have found all but one of the Iron Thrones HBO hid around the world
As you might know by now, HBO decided to send Game of Thrones fans on a scavenger hunt around the world in the weeks leading up to the premiere of the eighth and final season of the show — a hunt that involves finding any of six Iron Thrones the network scattered around the globe.
It must surely speak to the intense nature of GoT fandom, or maybe just an acute, finely honed sense of geography, that it only took a little more than a week to find five of the six thrones. None of which were hidden in the US, with the thrones instead squirreled away in far-flung locales from Canada to to Sweden.

Trump desperately wants the US in another space race that simply doesn’t exist
Donald Trump threw NASA for a loop shortly after taking office when he directed them to find a way to get humans back on the Moon. Putting astronauts on the Moon is obviously easier said than done, but NASA has been piecing together how such a mission might work ever since.
Now, at a meeting of the National Space Council in Alabama this week, Trump ordered Mike Pence to light a fire under NASA and speed up the process. Repeatedly pointing out that he was essentially relaying the wishes of Trump, Pence told the gathering of scientists and reporters that NASA will have a mere five years to get Americans back on the Moon.

Empty Boeing 737 makes emergency landing after experiencing engine trouble
Boeing’s 737 Max line of aircraft is grounded indefinitely as the company and safety officials attempt to figure out why two of the popular new planes have crashed within a year of each other. But with the planes not ferrying passengers anytime soon, airlines have to store them somewhere, which means they have to be flown elsewhere in the meantime.
One such transport flight is now making headlines after the pilot was forced to return to his departing airport after the plane experienced some kind of engine trouble. The emergency landing was pulled off, and the plane and its pair of pilots made it back unscathed.

Hubble discovers a mysterious dark spot on Neptune, and it’s getting bigger
The mighty Jupiter gets a lot of attention for its constantly-shifting face, but it’s not the only planet in our solar system with some serious personality. Neptune, the large frozen ball of methane and various other frigid gasses sitting way out in the outer reaches of our system, is surprisingly active, and the Hubble Space Telescope just caught it doing something nobody had ever seen before.
Astronomers have known for a long time that Neptune’s surface occasionally becomes dotted with dark spots. These large discolorations in its atmosphere can be linked to high pressure areas, and they come and go over the course of several years, but nobody had ever seen one forming until now.

GameStop unveils esports partnerships to rejuvenate the video game chain
As the video game industry increasingly shifts toward mobile and streaming, and away from pricey consoles and cartridges, GameStop is in the midst of a reinvention that looks to include esports as a centerpiece.
The gaming retailer on Wednesday announced a series of partnerships that all include a tie of some kind to the $1 billion esports industry. They include everything from support of gaming clinics to the establishment of a center in Frisco, Texas, that will become the headquarters of an esports team owned in part by the Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones. That 11,000 square foot facility, the GameStop Performance Center, will open in May.
