Apple’s first iOS 12.3 public beta is now available for download
With WWDC fast approaching, it’s only a matter of time before Apple takes the wraps off of iOS 13 and shows us all the new features we’ll be able to use once the company’s 2019 iPhone lineup rolls out. In the interim, though, Apple’s software engineers are still plugging away on iterations of iOS 12. Just a few days ago, for example, Apple rolled out a public beta of iOS 12.2. And just a few moments ago, Apple pushed out the first public beta of iOS 12.3.
As for new features, there isn’t a whole lot to divulge. This is just a dot release, after all. Still, iOS 12.3 is notable insofar that it helps set the stage for the multitude of services Apple unveiled at its special media event this past Monday.

Man who got cancer from RoundUp weed killer will get $80 million
Monsanto, the mega-corp that owns the popular RoundUp brand of weed killers, lost its case in federal court against a man who claims the herbicide contributed to his cancer diagnosis. The company has been ordered to pay just over $80 million in damages to the victim, Edwin Hardeman.
The case is now the second huge judgement against Monsanto within the last calendar year over RoundUp. A case that wrapped up in August of 2018 saw plaintiff Dewayne Johnson, who has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, originally awarded a hefty $289 million in damages from the company. That sum was later reduced to $78.5 million, and is still pending appeal.

Samsung is working on a new foldable smartphone that’s nothing like the Galaxy Fold
We’re a little less than a month away now from the US debut of Samsung’s first foldable phone hitting the market here, which will arrive at a time when the idea of a bendable form factor has spread like wildfire throughout the global smartphone industry. At this point, it’s pretty much a question of who’s not lining up to experiment with a foldable model, thanks to everything from the introduction of Huawei’s Mate X to the forthcoming Motorola RAZR, foldable prototypes that have emerged from companies like Oppo and Xiaomi as well as LG’s foldable that’s also coming later this year.
Samsung, meanwhile, has arguably been among the most aggressive with its experimentation in this regard, having patented what appears to be the most varied lineup of foldable phone models — with yet a new design just added to the list.

Apple Card will hopefully spur other banks to ditch credit card numbers, too
The new MasterCard-branded credit card that Apple introduced this week has gotten a lot of attention, much of it for things that the card doesn’t have. Things like late fees or over-the-limit fees, as well as the lack of a credit card number — which presumably makes it a more secure alternative to traditional plastic.
And while Apple Card of course will work exclusively within the iPhone maker’s sprawling ecosystem, one of the lesser-talked about effects so far of Apple’s introduction of this product is the effect it could have outside of Apple. Take, for example, that last part we mentioned, about the lack of a credit card number.

A Galaxy S10 update might add the Pixel 3 feature people can’t stop talking about
Samsung’s Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ were finally released earlier this month after nearly half a year of leaks and rumors built up all sorts of hype. Somehow, despite all that anticipation, Samsung’s new flagship smartphones managed to deliver. Last year’s Galaxy S9 phones were boring and disappointing in so many ways. They sported the same hardware design as their predecessors and they didn’t introduce a single compelling new feature. Thankfully though, the Galaxy S10 series is as exciting and new as the Galaxy S9 was boring and old.
The S10 phones have a great new all-screen design, they’re the first phones in many markets to sport hole-punch cameras, they have the most secure in-display fingerprint sensor on the market, and there’s plenty more where that came from. There’s one important part of the smartphone experience that some people believe Samsung didn’t focus on quite enough, however. But now it looks like the company is considering updating the Galaxy S10 line with a software feature from Google’s Pixel 3 that people have been buzzing about ever since the it was released almost six months ago.
