Here are NASA’s favorite 3D-printed Mars habitat designs

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When mankind eventually makes it to Mars, it’s going to be a momentous achievement, but the travelers who first set foot on the Red Planet probably won’t be there to stay. Eventually, however, NASA and other scientific groups around the world expect that we’ll colonize not only Mars, but other planets as well, and to realize that dream, we’re going to need places for interplanetary travelers to live.

With that in mind, NASA launched its 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge which tasked teams of researchers and engineers with designing homes for space travelers that could be created on-demand using 3D printing hardware brought along on a theoretical trip to Mars or another Earth-like planet. Now, one of the final stages of the competition has wrapped up, and NASA picked its three favorite virtual abodes.

Oreo and HBO teamed up for the most delicious ‘Game of Thrones’ credits sequence ever

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the best things about Game of Thrones, and something all fans of the series should be aware of, is the opening credits sequence. That’s because each episode has a unique opening sequence based on what happens in that episode, meaning that it’s improbable you’ll run into similar ones.

If you’ve already learned the various locations in Westeros as depicted in the opening sequence, then you’d already be able to tell where the episode’s action will take you. With that in mind, I’ll show you the tastiest Game of Thrones opening ever, made entirely with Oreo cookies.

Justice Department warns the Motion Picture Academy not to box out Netflix

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Steven Spielberg’s push for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to implement a rule change that would restrict streaming companies like Netflix from being eligible to win Oscars has apparently drawn scrutiny from the federal government.

Variety got its hands on a letter sent to the academy by the chief of the US Justice Department’s Antitrust Division, Makan Delrahim, who wrote to academy CEO Dawn Hudson about two weeks ago that the Netflix-related reports “may raise antitrust concerns.” In other words, it probably wouldn’t pass legal muster if the academy comes up with new rules to keep out Netflix, just because it’s Netflix.

NASA is going to need more money to make Trump’s Moon dreams a reality

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Last week, Donald Trump sent Mike Pence to relay a message to NASA demanding that the agency speed up its timeline for landing crewed missions on the lunar surface for the first time in decades. Pence’s address to the National Space Council was clear and to-the-point, but it was also completely unrealistic and probably won’t actually change anything.

Nevertheless, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine — who was appointed by Trump shortly after he took office — is going to try to make it happen. The odds are firmly stacked against NASA cutting four or more years off of its original Moon landing forecast, but with Trump issuing thinly-veiled threats to “change the agency, not the mission” if NASA can’t make it happen, Bridenstine has little choice but to toe the line. However, if he has any hope of success, he’s going to need heaps of cash that NASA just doesn’t have.

Apple News+ is off to a strong start, based on sign-ups from the first 48 hours

There are certainly some big omissions from Apple’s new premium news bundle, Apple News+, given that media companies like The New York Times and The Washington Post chose to keep their content outside of this new subscription offering despite an intense lobbying effort from Apple. Nevertheless, the company must surely be pleased with the reception to Apple News+, which it unveiled a week ago now during the media event dominated by new revenue-generating Apple services and non-hardware products.

Verizon just announced the first smartphone plan designed for kids

Kids are sometimes as young as 10 when parents allow them to have their first smartphone, according to studies from recent years, which might sound too young to you or maybe even just serve as a reminder at how intensely mobile-centric our world has become. Of course, a corollary to giving youngsters handsets of their own is that now they can have smartphone plans of their own as well — all under mom and dad’s watchful eye.

How the International Space Station is helping find the cure to Parkinson’s disease

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Health researchers around the world have been studying Parkinson’s disease for decades. It affects millions of people and, while doctors and scientists know a good deal about the mechanisms that cause symptoms of the disease, fighting back against it has proven very difficult. Now, astronauts aboard the International Space Station are doing their best to help.

In a new video and blog post, NASA showcases some of the work that’s being done aboard the International Space Station to help researchers better understand how to treat the disease and potentially even develop a cure. The video, which is just over two minutes long, is incredibly fascinating and definitely worth a watch.

Nokia’s new X71 has a stellar design that rivals that of the Galaxy S10

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

HMD Global’s Nokia 9 PureView might be the best Nokia phone you can buy right now, but the device isn’t necessarily perfect. The phone features a “classic” Nokia handset design, which means it has thicker bezels than most consumers want, and relies on last year’s top Snapdragon processor to power its penta-lens camera.

One of its biggest rivals is Samsung’s Galaxy S10 — a phone that features a hole-punch display design, as well as the latest Qualcomm processor. The S10, however, only features a triple-lens shooter on the back. But HMD just released a Nokia phone that looks a lot like the Galaxy S10 in terms of overall design. Sadly, the Nokia X71 is only selling in Taiwan for the time being, and it’s not a flagship handset.
