A ‘Game of Thrones’ VFX specialist shows us how they digitally bring dragons to life
Mark Spindler’s official title with the visual effects company Pixomondo is compositing supervisor, which means he’s responsible for taking different VFX elements and wizardry and stitching them together into a seamless whole. It sounds like a super-geeky, highly technical job. But when you look at the work he and his colleagues have done behind-the-scenes for the last several seasons now of Game of Thrones, the show’s three fire-breathing dragons they’ve helped digitally bring to life and imbue with terrifying realism belie a job with, it turns out, so many layers beyond mere technical prowess.

Marvel finally explained those matching suits in the trailers for ‘Avengers: Endgame’
A series of toy leaks months ago revealed that several of the surviving Avengers would don matching white suits in Avengers: Endgame, similar to the armor that Hank Pym wore in Ant-Man and the Wasp to go to the Quantum Realm. Theories soon formed around those toys leaks, as fans expected the heroes to find a way to travel through time with the help of Scott Lang’s knowledge of Pym’s work and the Quantum Realm.
The Endgame directors then said in an interview that those toy leaks might not reflect the final version in the film, but that didn’t change the fact that both Lego and Hasbro had Avengers minifigs and figurines dressed up in Quantum Realm suits (that’s what we ended up calling them for lack of an official explanation). Soon after that, Marvel released new trailers and Endgame footage that showed several of the Avengers wearing the white outfits. And now we finally have an explanation about the new armor. Chinese scientists put human brain genes in a monkey
Everything we know about evolution tells us that humans have primate ancestors, and that the development of our complex brains is what allowed ancient humans to forge the path that we’re on today. Determining what changes in primate brains prompted our fork of the evolution tree to take shape is something scientists in China are tackling in a revolutionary — and scary — way.
A new study led by researchers at the Kunming Institute of Zoology combined human brain genes with modern macaque monkeys, creating transgenic specimens that demonstrate more advanced problem-solving skills than their unmodified brethren. If you think this sounds like the plot of a bad sci-fi movie, that’s because it does.

Facebook’s latest mishap involves bizarre messages printed on Oculus controllers
Facebook is certainly dealing with its fair share of privacy snafus at the moment, a number that’s swelled considerably over the past 12 months or so. But its latest headache sounds almost too weird to be true.
Oculus cofounder Nate Mitchell, whose company is of course owned by Facebook, acknowledged on Twitter Friday that weird secret messages were “accidentally” hidden in “tens of thousands” of the virtual reality controllers. Messages like: “Big Brother is Watching” and “This Space for Rent.”

‘Avengers: Endgame’ will bring us dramatic hero deaths early on, plot leak claims
By the time the Avengers: Endgame credits roll, our favorite Marvel superheroes will have beaten Thanos and prevented the snap. This is the one future where they win: Doctor Strange said so back in Infinity War, and that’s the story that Marvel will tell. However, to undo the snap and resurrect all the victims, including several of our favorite MCU heroes, the remaining Avengers will have a great deal to sacrifice.
We know they’ll do “whatever it takes” to get the job done, which means we shouldn’t be surprised to witness all sorts of heartbreaking moments throughout the film, including unexpected deaths (that might not necessarily be permanent). Someone who claims they know the movie’s plot says we should expect hero deaths in the first half of the film. Interestingly, it’s not who you’d expect, but before we share those details with you, we’ll have to warn you that significant spoilers follow below, assuming this story is real.
