The wonderful thing about being an analyst in this day and age is that you can usually say something completely crazy and people will forget about it the next day no matter how wrong it turns out to be. Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry, however, last year made possibly the stupidest claim in the history of tech analysis: Namely, he said that unless Apple came out with an Apple Watch within 60 days, it would simply “disappear.”

Pebble Technology, the company that made one of the best-selling smartwatches to date, seems ready to fight against Apple’s first smartwatch with a brand-new product of its own.

To better compete against Apple’s highly customizable device, Pebble has come up with a new smartwatch design that it first revealed on Tuesday as part of its newest Kickstarter project. And, unsurprisingly, the project is off to a great start, having already hit more than $5 million in pledges, or five times its initial $500,000 funding goal.

For years, the decline in broadcast audiences has been sort of a mild, persistent headache for TV executives.
