News broke in February that hackers were able to steal no less than $81 million from the Bank of Bangladesh in what MANY described as a perfect heist. Well, maybe it wasn’t perfect, as a silly spelling mistake prevented the culprits from walking away with nearly $1 billion. But the sophisticated attack worked almost flawlessly as the hackers were able to take advantage of the backbone of financial transactions, after infiltrating the bank’s systems.

It turns out that the Bangladesh attack wasn’t an isolated event. Hackers have attacked other banks as well in the past using the same methods. New reports show that some of these attacks could have been prevented, but only if only banks were willing to share more details about these attacks with the SWIFT organization. Apparently, the financial institutions aren’t just worried that they’re going to lose the trust of customers, but also that they might generate additional inquiries into their security systems from local regulators. And nobody wants that.

For those unfamiliar, Project Ara is an ambitious program designed to create an entire hardware ecosystem for smartphone modules. Yesterday, unveiled the “future of retail” in its new San Francisco store. The new location is absurdly overhyped: it has “forums” and “groves” rather than aisles or counters, and Apple wants entrepreneurs to cluster in its “board rooms.”

It’s a far cry from the Apple Store that Steve Jobs first introduced back in 2001, and if the founder could see what the face of the store has become, he’d be turning in his grave.

How to see who’s tracking you on Facebook (aside from Facebook)

%name How to see who’s tracking you on Facebook (aside from Facebook) by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Being tracked on the internet is something that’s only to be expected, since advertising is still the biggest online moneymaker out there. Google and Facebook are two of the biggest companies that make money by being able to tell advertisers what we like, and there are many others who track our every move online.

Some of these companies offer you ways to limit the amount of data they collect, and they also offer some amount of transparency for their advertising programs. While you might never evade Google or Facebook completely, there are ways to see everything Google knows about you, and you can also find out which companies are tracking you on Facebook… aside from Facebook itself, that is.
