Google isn’t happy with the chat apps it already has, so at I/O 2016 it showed off a new Assistant-infused Allo messaging app as well as a Duo video chat app intended to work like Apple’s FaceTime, but across platforms. From Google’s demos, you can easily see they’re incredible apps that should offer fast and smart communication. However, there are things you need to know about privacy and encryption.

A new image taken by the Hubble space telescope shows Mars in incredible detail as astronomers prepare for a close-up with the red planet.

Operated by NASA and the European Space Agency, Hubble took the Mars image on May 12. “During May 2016 the Earth and Mars get closer to each other than at any time in the last ten years,” explained the ESA, in a statement.

On Sunday, Mars will “come into opposition,” which refers to the point at which the planet is located directly opposite the Sun in the sky. “This means that the Sun, Earth and Mars line up, with Earth sitting in between the Sun and the Red Planet,” explained the ESA.

Indiegogo is the lesser-known cousin of Kickstarter, and it has something of a bad reputation for harboring particularly unrealistic crowdfunding campaigns (Lazer Razor, anyone?).

To try to give people more confidence in some campaigns, Indiegogo has partnered with Arrow Electronics, a design and production firm. As reported by TechCrunch, Indiegogo campaigns will get access to expertise to help with the manufacturing and prototyping, and get an official stamp of approval from Indiegogo to help lure in backers.

3-D printing has been used to make all sorts of products of increasing complexity, including rockets for spacecraft and engine components. But it’s not until you see an Airbus exec lifting this motorbike with one hand that the technology’s potential really starts to shine through.

The oh-so-cleverly-named Light Rider is produced by Airbus subsidiary AP Works. It has a 3-D printed frame made from a proprietary aluminum alloy, which Airbus claims to be as strong as titanium. Even including the chunky tires, suspension and electric motor, the whole bike only weighs in at 35kg.

Look, we get it. Putting your dog in a crazy harness every time you get in the car is a huge pain in the butt. Strapping your pup in when you get in the car is hugely important though. Securing your dog is one thing, but there’s another reason it’s so vital: In the unfortunate event of a crash, a dog that isn’t strapped in could end up running away and getting lost, which is even worse if he or she is injured.

Prevent this scenario without a complicated harness by picking up the Etekcity 2-Pack of Dog Car Seat Belt Straps. One end clicks into your seat belt buckle and the other end has a normal metal hook just like a leash that can attach to any dog collar or harness. Best of all, a two-pack is just $8 shipped.

Google is going all in on virtual reality, and we saw the early stages of its plan for VR domination take shape this week at the annual Google I/O developer conference. The company covered plenty of bases during its big keynote event on Wednesday — check out the 8 most important announcements from Google I/O 2016 — but VR was absolutely one of the biggest. In fact, the entire event was streamed live in 360-degree video so that anyone with a VR headset anywhere in the world could follow along as if they were sitting right there in the audience.

The company’s mission is clear: Google wants to own VR. Android is clearly the proper tool for the job, and now another piece of the puzzle is falling into place. Remember the MIT’s RoboBee? The initiative kicked off a couple of years ago, aiming to fix a major problem that we currently have: the bee population is slowly dying, and without bees, we’re pretty much doomed. Last fall we learned that researchers from Harvard created an insect-size robot that can both fly and swim. And now we hear that MIT and Harvard researchers have partnered up to create a RoboBee that can perch.

There’s no denying that Tesla is an incredibly forward-thinking and innovative company that’s made some big changes to the status quo. In what seems like the blink of an eye, Tesla not only managed to normalize the concept of electric vehicles, but it also changed the way we think about the driving experience altogether.

As a direct result, Tesla is a beloved company with an adoring and exceedingly passionate fan base. But there’s only so much crap even the most passionate fans will tolerate, and with Tesla anticipating rapid growth into a much cheaper market, its quality control issues need to be sorted out — fast.
