• Google developed a new tool to help users ensure they’re keeping at least six feet away from other people, and it’s available right inside the Chrome browser.

Social distancing measures may not be as strict as they were last month, but you should still try to stay away from people as much as possible when you’re outside. The novel coronavirus’s infection rate may have slowed in your area, but COVID-19 hasn’t magically disappeared, and it might never will. The only way to reduce transmissibility is to keep your distance from others, wear face masks, and wash your hands often. These activities should be priorities to anyone until we have drugs available to beat this thing. Keeping three to six feet away from others might be difficult to enforce, and the virus can travel well over six feet in the right conditions. But Google does have an app that can help you keep at least six feet between you and other people. Unfortunately, it’s still experimental, it works only on Android, and it requires you to keep the phone screen turned on at all times.

• The Pixel 4a release date is still a mystery, as Google has postponed the release of its affordable next-gen handset.
• A new leak reveals that Google has considered making a bigger version of the phone, the Pixel 4a XL, that many people expected to see in stores this spring.

We’re nowhere closer to getting any official news about the Pixel 4a, but we do have one more Pixel leak, one that says Google considered making an XL version of the handset, one that could have been even better than the low-cost model.

• The severe coronavirus syndrome that has been found to affect children is even more dangerous than believed, as young adults can also experience the same symptoms.
• Likened to Kawasaki disease, the post-COVID-19 illness is called multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).
• Hundreds of cases have been registered in the US alone, and MIS-C requires professional care.

It all started in late April, with UK doctors issuing a warning about a strange inflammatory syndrome in children who were infected with the novel coronavirus. The disease looked similar to Kawasaki disease and included symptoms such as multiple body parts becoming inflamed. Soon after that, doctors in American hospitals started noticing the syndrome. Hundreds of cases emerged worldwide in children who were exposed to COVID-19 or had the disease.

Doctors still can’t explain why this syndrome is becoming increasingly common, but now we have a name for the condition: multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, or MIS-C. Now, some physicians think they’ve found markers that can predict severe cases. Most kids do recover from MIS-C, but there have been a few fatalities. Moreover, it looks like the syndrome is now affecting young adults, a possibility that doctors have to prepare for.

• Google released a new experimental tool this week called Sodar that lets users visualize social distancing guidelines by placing a 2-meter radius augmented reality ring around themselves.
• In order to use Sodar, you will need to visit a website on Chrome from an Android device.
• Once you’ve agreed to all of the permission prompts, Sodar will ask you to point your device’s camera at the ground and will create an AR ring around you that will follow you wherever you go.

Health experts and governments are hopeful that a safe and effective vaccine for the novel coronavirus will be ready to innoculate the masses in the coming months, but in the meantime, it’s up to all of us to keep ourselves safe as best we can. One of the many ways that we can protect ourselves is by following the social distancing guidelines from the CDC, which include avoiding gathering in groups and staying at least six feet from one another.

Staying away from large gatherings is relatively easy to accomplish, but living in New York City, I can assure you that keeping six feet of distance between myself and anyone else is virtually impossible from the moment I step outside of my apartment.
