If you’re a pony-car enthusiast, this is your year. Not only has Ford introduced an all-new Mustang, but it’s also the 50th anniversary of the original. Celebrations and commemorations have been scheduled throughout the year, and not the least of them is the latest exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

Called “Mustangs Forever: 50 Years of a Legend”, the exhibit includes Mustangs from every generation of the iconic pony car, including the 1965 convertible Ronald Reagan drove during his California gubernatorial campaign, a 1971 Mach 1 Cobra Jet, a 1974 Mustang II, 1993 SVT Cobra, 2000 Cobra R and a 2006 Shelby GT-H. Special sections focus on motorsports, aftermarket modifiers and limited-edition models.

The display opened on last Sunday with the Mustang Madness spectacular and will run for the next six months, but if you’re not heading to Southern California within the coming half-year then you can scope out all the action in our live gallery of photos above.

Exotic Car Tours Trackday at Toronto Motorsports Park

It’s not every day that one gets to flog a fleet of exotics and supercars at Toronto Motorsports Park, so when we got the invite from Exotic Car Tours to come out and play, erm, work, we happily obliged. It’s a tough job sometimes, but someone has to do it, right?

If you’re not familiar with the company, Exotic Car Tours is essentially a rental car company that instead of a Chrysler 200, sends you off with your choice of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Nissan GT-R R35, Ariel Atom (track only for the Atom), Dodge Viper, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Lotus Exige (track only), Porsche 911 Turbo, Aston Martin DB9, Audi R8, and more. The cars are available in automatic and manual. See the site for up to date details. Our day with ECT was a trackday as opposed to a street rental, so we can’t speak to that side of things as we have no prior experience with them.

The event we were invited to take part in was just one day in an ongoing series of exotic car track days that are open to the public. The cars are all owned by ECT and all you have to do once you’ve registered, is show up to the track ready to have the time of your life.

Oliver Racing Parts, manufacturers of high-performance connecting rods for motorsports applications, is moving its operations and manufacturing to a more modern facility in Charlevoix, MI.

The move will allow Oliver an opportunity to upgrade its manufacturing and packaging equipment in a new facility, and will enable Oliver to continue expanding its line of high-performance products.

Next Ford Raptor spotted wearing aluminum skin

ford raptor spy shot opt Next Ford Raptor spotted wearing aluminum skin by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Filed under:

Well, look at what we have here. Judging from these spy shots, Ford is indeed working on the next generation of its off-road-ready F-150 Raptor pickup truck. We’ve made no attempt to hide our appreciation for the Baja-style truck, which combines most of the usability of a fullsize truck with heavy-duty suspension components to make a kind of performance vehicle that is unique in the market.

What we haven’t known, until now, is whether Ford would push forward with its Raptor program now that it has a completely new F-150 to serve as its base. And that’s especially true since Ford made the bold move of switching the bodywork of its best-seller from tried-and-true steel to aluminum. As you can see above, the front and rear of this silver truck are clad in current-gen Raptor bodywork, while the center section that houses the occupants appears to come from the upcoming 2015 F-150.

Dissecting the views above, we note a few interesting tidbits. First, there looks to be a bulge in the truck’s hood. Second, we see a new grille between the current Raptor’s headlights, sporting a mesh finish and two horizontal bars. Lastly, our eyes can’t help but lock in on those burly A-arm suspension pieces down below, not to mention all that ground clearance the specialty suspenders bring to the table.

These spy shots don’t answer a few lingering questions: how much of the next-gen Ford Raptor will be made from aluminum, how far would a several-hundred-pound reduction in weight stretch the truck’s already class-leading off-road performance, and will Ford continue using naturally aspirated V8 engines or would it consider switching to a six-cylinder EcoBoost? While we continue to mull over these thoughts, feel free to join us in hoping and wishing that this new Raptor hits the market sooner rather than later.

Car salesmen reveal secret ways they sell you a car

We recently shared our findings on car dealer lingo you should know before you buy, the top 10 things your car dealer won’t tell you and the quickest ways to spot a shady mechanic, but this time around we’re revealing the secret ways car salesmen try to seal the deal with a few tricky tactics over the phone.

When you start calling dealerships about your next new car, consider this: The salesperson at the other end of the line could be a well trained phone sales ninja, ready to sweet talk you into a new car. Jerry Thibeau, a professional sales trainer, ought to know. In late 2009, he started a company called Phone-Up Ninjas, designed to sharpen skills and specifically train car dealership staff in the art of telephone sales tactics.

Thibeau teaches everything from phone etiquette and a “positive and productive” attitude, to scores of sales tips and techniques. One of his specialties is to convert the call-in shopper into flesh-and-blood presence on the dealership floor… READ FULL STORY

2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost

2014 ford fiesta ecoboost 18 1 2 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Filed under:

I’ll be honest; when Ford first unveiled its 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6, I was skeptical. Past attempts at building turbocharged American cars were almost universally awful, I reasoned, so why would Ford’s latest effort be any different? This may seem foolish today, considering the success that the growing EcoBoost range has achieved – particularly the 2.0-litre and 1.6-litre mills. Yet I once again found myself questioning Ford.

It’s the makeup of the 1.0-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder slotted into the compact engine bay of this Fiesta that has a way of breeding doubt. Three-cylinder engines remain an extreme rarity in North America. What’s more, they earned a less-than-desirable reputation for applications in the 1980s and 1990s, and my trepidation about this latest three-pot as a result.

As I found out, though, history is a poor informant of modern technology. The thrust available in other cars with the EcoBoost badge on the back has not gone missing here; something the International Engine of the Year committee has lauded. That august body named the 1.0-litre Ecoboost the best engine of 2012 and 2013. After a week of driving, it didn’t take long for my fear of threes to get turned into something like that line of thinking.

Scroll down for our driving notes and impressions.
