Radical RXC is a Mustang-hearted racecar for the road

Radical has been building fantastic open-cockpit racers and roadcars for years, for the track day enthusiast who wants a vehicle that looks like it could show up for a start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The company’s latest creation is the RXC, and while this coupe looks like a prototype racer, it’s road legal in the UK and in some parts of the US. When testing a car this, um, radical, the first thought is likely to get it to the track for some big slides and wide open acceleration, but XCar Films takes the opposite approach in its latest video to learn how this racer fares on public roads.

The version tested here is the standard RXC with the 3.7-liter V6 out of the Ford Mustang tuned to 350 horsepower with a seven-speed sequential gearbox; but Radical also offers the same engine with 380-hp, a 454-hp Ford EcoBoost 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, or even a 500-hp V8. Even in the most basic guise, it’s a handful to control in the wet, if this video is any indication. The cliché of a road-legal racecar is bandied around a lot in the motoring world, but it truly applies to the RXC.

The only problem with seeing the RXC exclusively on the road is that it can never really open up and show its full potential. This racer is indeed chomping at the bit to rocket off into the horizon, but all those pesky road safety laws hold it back. Still, the video is a chance to get a better impression about this thoroughbred sports car. Scroll down to check it out.

Ken Block and friends race light in silly-beautiful Castrol commercial

How does one make fast, loud, drifting cars better? Well, you can add more fast, loud, drifting cars or you can add lasers. Either or, really. In this case, Castrol did the right thing and added both, creating a highly stylized commercial for its Edge Titanium motor oil starring South African racer Adrian Zaugg, BMW factory driver Augusto Farfus, Audi DTM and Le Mans staple Mike Rockenfeller and some bloke named Ken Block.

Their cars? No surprise, but Block is in his Ford Fiesta GRC, while Zaugg samples a Lamborghini Aventador and Farfus and Rockenfeller drive along party lines, with a BMW M4 and an Audi R8, respectively. And those cars look good, too, thanks to the creative light and laser work on display.

Take a look below for the video from Castrol.

Compressed Natural Gas – The Future Fuel?

Eco Car 300x168 Compressed Natural Gas – The Future Fuel? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

This Bi-Fueled Mustang Muscle Car was unveiled last year at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, MI.

Daryl Patrishkoff of Shelby Township, MI, has a vision for the American automotive industry. He firmly believes that our fuel of choice should be Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), not gasoline. Until the full CNG infrastructure is in place a Bi-Fuel vehicle, fueled by either CNG or gasoline upon the drivers command, is the bridge vehicle that can lead this transition.

Patrishkoff heads up a three-man technical team developing this technology. The advantages are a 40 percent savings in fuel costs at the pump, 25-30 percent reduction in harmful emissions, 100 percent U.S. provided natural gas, and meaningful employment for the US economy.

The most important benefit, however, is that a CNG-powered vehicle runs on fuel that can be mined in America, eliminating the need for foreign oil. “After decades of political rhetoric, these types of vehicles can truly lead the U.S. to energy independence,” he said.

Although CNG is used in more than 15 million vehicles worldwide, acceptance of this alternative fuel has been slow in the U.S. There are only 120,000 CNG vehicles in the country, most of them company fleet and municipal buses which have been in service for decades.

Patrishkoff and his team, known as Performance CNG, LLC, are trying to change all that by demonstrating practical applications on multiple vehicles. On their current project they have converted a 2003 Mustang Street Legal Muscle Car to a Bi-Fuel configuration. It has taken thousands of hours and a significant amount of money to get the Muscle Car developed to automotive engineering standards. It is now a legitimate road vehicle which puts out 470 HP at the rear wheels (over 500 HP at the crank) on either fuel using alcohol injection.

Patrishkoff invested his own money and received support from his partners, local automotive companies, friends and family. This Bi-Fueled Mustang Muscle Car was unveiled last year at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, MI; the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars.

Since then the Bi-Fueled Mustang has traveled to many universities, community colleges, high schools, industry seminars and alternative energy events to bring awareness to this technology and the value proposition of using CNG as a fuel for many types of vehicles.

Having demonstrated that using CNG does not decrease HP from a gasoline baseline, the next step is to show it can increase HP. For that purpose Patrishkoff needs an additional $55,000 of funding. About $15,000 of this total is needed for high-performance CNG components and $10,000 is required for engine calibration refinements on the Dynamometer. The remaining $30,000 is slotted for EPA 75 testing (emissions, MPG and horsepower).

In order to raise funds for this final phase of this project, Patrishkoff has launched an Indiegogo campaign that can be viewed at www.indiegogo.com/projects/street-legal-muscle-car-running-on-cng/x/7109221.

Depending on their levels of contribution, backers can receive brochures, technical documentation and continued project progress updates of the project. The top donation level also receives two invitations to the grand unveiling event.

But, most of all, they’ll be contributing to a cleaner environment and for the first time a true path to U.S. energy independence that creates long-term meaningful jobs for our economy.

“We’re shattering the various paradigms about the application of Compressed Natural Gas used in real consumer vehicles,” Patrishkoff said. “This final stage of the project will prove the point that CNG is a high performance fuel backed up with real engineering data that complies with global automotive standards.”

Top 10 worst roads are mostly in Toronto according to annual CAA survey

The annual CAA list of the worst roads in Ontario is back for 2014 and so are some very familiar streets that topped the list last year, as Dufferin Street in Toronto has been voted the worst road in Ontario for the third year in a row!

With Toronto already making headlines as the worst city for speed traps and being named to the top 5 list of worst rush hour traffic in North America, it should come as no surprise that seven of Ontario’s top 10 worst roads were found to be within the Greater Toronto Area.

CAA’s study asked Ontario drivers to cast votes online to help determine the roads most in need of repair so that recommendations can be made to local and provincial politicians in an effort to get those poorly paved roads fixed.

The Worst Roads campaign is not just about potholes either, as this CAA-led campaign aims to gather your feedback (by voting at worstroads.ca) on traffic congestion, poor timing of traffic signals, confusing road signs, as well as, pedestrian and cycling safety in Ontario. According to CAA, 90 per cent of voters cited crumbling pavement and pothole covered streets as the biggest reasons for selecting these specific roads.

With Ontario’s provincial election taking place in a couple of weeks and a municipal election this fall, CAA hopes its annual survey encourages residents across the province to ask their local candidates about what their position is on issues surrounding transportation and infrastructure.

“The province of Ontario has been collecting a gas tax for decades (14.7 cents on every litre of gas and diesel sold in Ontario) and CAA has long called for a permanent dedicated fund to help pay for much needed repairs on our deteriorating roads and crumbling bridges,” said Faye Lyons, Government Relations, CAA SCO.

From an early age, we’re taught to never judge a book by its cover. But let’s be honest here: looks matter. This is especially true when it comes to cars. Sure, driving dynamics, having the best interior quality and the longest lasting reliability are important attributes. But I guarantee that somewhere inside of you there’s a desire to be behind the wheel of something so gorgeous that it makes people go “Wow!” when you drive past.

Cars today can be absolutely beautiful objects, many of them the product of years of artistry, design and engineering. We recently asked our team of colleagues at AOL Autos and our editors here at Autoblog to help pick the vehicles they see as the best looking new cars on the road (so no concept cars allowed). It wasn’t an easy task, and the subjective nature of the topic resulted in much internal and external debate, but we were able to eventually each settle this list of the top 12 best looking cars of 2014.

Click here to see the dozen rides that we think are among the most attractive on the road today. While many exist solely for the pleasure of the one per cent, there are still a few out there that the average car enthusiast and consumer can afford to drive.

An Audi driver in Calgary, AB had their car badly crushed by falling bricks from a crumbling office building downtown. According to The Huffington Post, the large hole measuring about six metres by four metres has appeared on the side of a Calgary office building that’s been shedding bricks from its facade since last week.

There have been no reports of injuries, but the debris heavily damaged an Audi A5 that had to be left in a parking lot when the problem all began. The gaping hole on the side of the building showed up Sunday evening when several large chunks of construction material let go, smashing onto the ground and cars in the adjacent parking lot… READ MORE
