The air quality in many major cities around the world falls well below acceptable limits, and the death toll is rising. However, a new study shows that even when air quality meets or exceeds established guidelines, it may still be dirty enough to claim lives, suggesting that we’re not doing nearly enough to protect ourselves from, well, ourselves.

The study, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, spans three decades and over 650 cities around the world, painting a broad (and frightening) picture of how poor air quality is affecting public health.

%name Don’t pay $250 for an Alexa enabled smart thermostat when this one is only $78 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Smart thermostats like the Nest Learning Thermostat and ecobee SmartThermostat are cool, but $250 is a whole lot of money to spend on a thermostat when many people don’t even bother to use most of the “smart” features they provide. If you’re just looking for a reliable model that you can control with your voice thanks to Alexa support, we’ve got just the thing. Check out the Honeywell Home RTH6580WF Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat on Amazon — it’s under $79 right now as opposed to $250!

Honeywell Home Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat (RTH6580WF), Requires C Wire, Works with Ale…: $78.46

Here are the bullet points from the product page:

  • “Compatibility is Required” Works with virtually any system type except electric baseboards. But Please Note: C-Wire is required for this thermostat to receive power. If you do not have a C-wire, you may be able to use the C-Wire adapter (sold separately) or a G-wire jumper cable which is included with this thermostat. Use of the G-wire jumper cable will allow you to power the thermostat without a C-Wire; however using the G-wire solution means that you will no longer have independent fan control, although the fan will still run while your system is on.
  • 7 day programming with 4 program periods per day can be configured to meet almost any scheduling scenario for ultimate flexibility.
  • Wi-Fi enabled thermostat allows for remote access via smart-phone or computer, free smart-phone app for iPhone, iPad and Android operating systems.
  • Ability to view local weather from web portal or app, Wink App Ready – No Wink Hub Required.
  • In the box you will find: Thermostat, Wall plate (attached to thermostat), Screws and anchors, Quick Start Guide, Thermostat ID Card, Wire labels, User Guide, Quick Reference Card, G Wire Jumper Cable.
  • Works with Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT, Bonomi, Wink, and Stringy (devices sold separately)
  • See Product Manuals below in “Technical Specification” for more information.
  • ENERGY STAR certified

A red-hot alien world was found orbiting three stars

%name A red hot alien world was found orbiting three stars by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA’s TESS exoplanet-hunting satellite has already made some incredible discoveries in its first couple of years in service, but its latest find will definitely look familiar to sci-fi fans. The planet LTT 1445 A b is a rocky world approximately 1.4 times as large as Earth. It’s a likely baren rock with incredibly high surface temperatures, but what makes the planet particularly interesting is that its sky is dotted with not one, not two, but three suns.

The planet orbits one star at an incredibly close distance, completing a full orbit in just five Earth days, and that star orbits a pair of stars which are locked in an intimate dance. The trio of stars are all red dwarfs, which are a bit cooler than our own Sun, but that doesn’t mean LTT 1445 A b would be a comfortable place to visit.

%name You’ll pay Apple $50 for an adapter and cable to fast charge your iPhone – get these instead for $20 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple’s iPhones from the past few years all support 18W fast charging, which is awesome. But Apple only includes cheap 5W chargers in the boxes with its iPhones, which is decidedly not awesome. If you want to buy the USB-C to Lightning cable and 18W USB-C wall charger that you need to charge your iPhone more than three times faster, you’ll have to pay about $50 to get them from Apple. That’s ridiculous, because we’ve got a pair of sales for you on Thursday that will get you the same result for less than half the price. Use the coupon code UGREEN493 at checkout and you can pick up a UGREEN USB-C to Lightning Cable for just $6.99. Then clip the 5% coupon to snag a UGREEN 18W USB-C Charger for just $13.29, and you’ll be fast charging your iPhone for a grand total of only $20.28!
