Google highlights ‘PUBG’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in Play store’s Best of 2018

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google on Monday announced the best content it has to offer in the Google Play store across various sections, including apps, movies, TV shows, and books. Among the highlights of this year’s “best of” list, Google included PUBG Mobile, which fans voted the best game of 2018.

That may seem like a surprising choice considering that Fortnite is seemingly the most popular game in the world across all platforms, but Fortnite isn’t officially available in the Google Play store. If you want the game, you have to sideload it on your Android devices, something Google doesn’t condone.

Report: Windows Lite is Microsoft’s long-awaited answer to Chrome OS

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The success of Google’s Chromebook hardware and Chrome OS software wasn’t an inevitability, but the ease of use they afford ended up allowing Google to carve out a niche in a very crowded PC marketplace. Ever since Chrome OS entered the scene, we’ve been waiting for Microsoft to come out with its own pared down version of Windows, but its half-hearted attempts (Windows 10 S, Windows RT) have all fallen flat.

Those failures haven’t stopped Microsoft though, as Petri on Monday reported that the company is working on “a new version of Windows that may not actually be Windows.” Based on the documentation he has seen, Petri’s Brad Sams believes that Windows Lite — the new OS — is Microsoft’s answer to Chrome OS.

Netflix confirms ‘Friends’ will stay on the service through 2019

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Three years after landing on Netflix, there’s been an uptick in chatter over the last couple of months that NBC’s mega-popular sitcom Friends may be finally leaving the streaming service come January 1st.

Media analyst Rich Greenfield suggested as much in an analyst note back in October — specifically, that Friends might depart Netflix next year for the new streaming service that Warner Bros. parent company WarnerMedia is launching towards the end of 2019. Meanwhile, fans of the show went into full freak-out mode over the weekend when someone spotted a note on the show’s Netflix page that said it would be leaving the service on January 1st.

Google’s Call Screen transcripts are now rolling out to Pixel owners

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the most intriguing features that Google announced alongside the Pixel 3 earlier this year was Call Screen, which allows the Phone app to show a live transcription of an incoming call and have Google Assistant respond for you without having to answer the call yourself. It’s ideal for dealing with spam calls (which are seemingly unending), but when it first arrived, it did so without an all-important feature.

Google promised that the ability to save transcripts would be available to public beta testers first, and then all Pixel 3 users before the end of the year, and it appears that some users are just now seeing the feature. Not everyone has it yet, but with less than a month to go in 2018, all Pixel 3 owners should see it soon.

Jason Momoa landed his starring role in the Aquaman movie hitting theaters this month in a roundabout way, it turns out. The actor has revealed in a new interview that he actually auditioned to play the Caped Crusader in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with director Zack Synder ultimately seeing something fresh and unique enough in Momoa’s audition that he hit the actor with a curveball.

Awesome new device adds a backup camera to any car in minutes, no wiring needed

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There are dozens of different aftermarket backup cameras out there for cars that don’t have them preinstalled. What you might not realize though, is that there’s an awesome new device available that can be installed by anyone in just a few minutes, and it doesn’t require any wiring at all. It also uses your smartphone as a display for the backup camera, so you don’t need to clutter up your console with a new screen! ‘Black Mirror’ season 5 release date might have been leaked by Netflix

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With just a few days to spare, it looks like Netflix subscribers will be getting more Black Mirror before the end of 2018. Late last week, the NX on Netflix Twitter account (which focuses on fantasy and science fiction content) tweeted out a schedule of fantasy and sci-fi shows and movies coming to Netflix in December. We already know the full schedule for the month, but NX included a surprising addition: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

The tweet was deleted almost immediately, but not before screenshots were taken. Fairly frequently, Netflix will make adjustments or additions to its monthly lineup after it has announced the schedule, which makes this leak imminently believable. Providing the leak is correct, Black Mirror will return on December 28th.
